Step 1: Launching the Snipping Tool
To begin, open the Launchpad on your Mac and type “Grab” in the search bar. Click on the “Grab” icon to launch the application. Alternatively, you can locate Grab in the Utilities folder within your Applications.

Step 2: Choosing a Capture Mode
Once Grab is open, go to the “Capture” menu in the top menu bar. Here you will find four different capture modes:

Selection: This mode allows you to select a specific portion of your screen using a crosshair cursor. Window: With this mode, you can capture an entire window by clicking on it.

Screen: Selecting this mode captures the entire screen. Timed Screen: This mode captures the entire screen after a delay of 10 seconds.

Choose the appropriate capture mode depending on your requirements.

Step 3: Capturing a Screenshot
Let’s say you want to capture a specific portion of your screen. In that case, select the “Selection” mode from the Capture menu. You will notice that your cursor changes into a crosshair shape.

Click and drag your cursor to select the area you want to capture. Release the mouse button once you have made your selection. The captured screenshot will then be displayed as a new window in Grab.

Step 4: Saving Your Screenshot
After capturing your screenshot, go to Grab’s menu bar and click on “File.” From here, choose “Save” to save the screenshot to your desired location on your Mac.

Step 5: Additional Editing Options
Grab also offers some basic editing options for your screenshots. To access these options, go to Grab’s menu bar and click on “Edit.” Here, you can find options like highlighting, drawing shapes, adding text, and cropping your screenshot.

  • Highlighting: Select the text or area you want to highlight and choose “Highlight” from the Edit menu.
  • Drawing Shapes: Choose “Shape” from the Edit menu and select the shape you want to draw on your screenshot.
  • Adding Text: To add text to your screenshot, click on “Text” from the Edit menu. You can then type in your desired text and customize it using the formatting options.
  • Cropping: If you want to remove unwanted areas from your screenshot, select “Crop” from the Edit menu. Click and drag the corners of the selection box to adjust it accordingly.

Step 6: Saving Your Edited Screenshot
Once you have finished editing your screenshot, go to Grab’s menu bar and click on “File.” From here, choose “Save” just like in Step 4 to save the edited screenshot.
