How to Unlock My iPhone When I Forgot the Password

Step 1: Attempt to Enter the Password Multiple Times

If you’ve forgotten your iPhone password, the first thing you should try is entering it multiple times. Sometimes, our memory fails us momentarily, and entering the password correctly after a few attempts can unlock the device.

Step 2: Use iTunes to Unlock Your iPhone

If Step 1 didn’t work for you, don’t panic. You can use iTunes to unlock your iPhone. Follow these steps:

  • Connect your iPhone to a computer
  • Using a USB cable, connect your iPhone to a computer that has iTunes installed.

  • Open iTunes and put your device into Recovery Mode
  • In order to put your iPhone into Recovery Mode:

    • For iPhones with Face ID (iPhone X or later models)
      1. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button.

      2. Keep holding until the recovery mode screen appears.
  • Find your iPhone in iTunes
  • Once your iPhone is in Recovery Mode, it should be detected by iTunes. Look for your device in the iTunes interface.

  • Restore your iPhone
  • In iTunes, you’ll find the option to restore your iPhone. Click on it and follow the on-screen instructions to complete the restoration process. This will erase all data on your device, but you can recover it from a backup later.

Step 3: Use iCloud to Unlock Your iPhone

If you have previously set up Find My iPhone feature on your device and have access to another Apple device with iCloud, you can unlock your iPhone remotely. Here’s how:

  • Visit iCloud.com
  • Open a web browser on another Apple device or computer and visit iCloud.com.

  • Sign in with your Apple ID
  • Use your Apple ID credentials to sign in to iCloud.

  • Select ‘Find iPhone’
  • In the iCloud web interface, select ‘Find iPhone’.
