How to Turn iPhone Off

Turning off your iPhone is a simple process that can be done with just a few steps. Whether you want to conserve battery life or perform a restart, knowing how to turn off your iPhone is an essential skill for every user.

Step 1: Locate the Sleep/Wake Button

The first step in turning off your iPhone is locating the Sleep/Wake button. This button is usually located on the right side of the device. On older models, it may be found on the top or bottom.

Step 2: Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button

Once you have located the Sleep/Wake button, press and hold it until you see a slider appear on your screen.

Step 3: Slide to Power Off

After the slider appears, use your finger to slide it from left to right. This action will turn off your iPhone.

Note:

If you have an iPhone X or newer model, there is an additional step to turn off your device. After sliding the power off slider, you will need to press and hold either the volume up or volume down button along with the side button until you see the power off screen.

  • Bold Text Tip: To make sure you don’t accidentally trigger any other actions while turning off your device, firmly press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the power off slider appears.
  • Underlined Text Tip: If sliding doesn’t work, ensure that there are no restrictions enabled on your device that prevent powering off.

Restarting Your iPhone

If you want to perform a restart instead of completely turning off your iPhone, follow these steps:

For iPhone 8 or Earlier Models:

To restart your iPhone 8 or earlier models, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the power off slider appears. Then, slide the slider to power off. Once your device is off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until the Apple logo appears.

For iPhone X or Newer Models:

To restart your iPhone X or newer models, press and hold either the volume up or volume down button along with the side button until the power off slider appears. Slide the slider to power off. After your device is completely off, press and hold the side button until you see the Apple logo.
