Turning on the hotspot on your Android device is a simple and convenient way to share your internet connection with other devices. Whether you want to connect your laptop, tablet, or another smartphone, the hotspot feature allows you to create a portable Wi-Fi network. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to turn on the hotspot on your Android device.

Step 1: Accessing Hotspot Settings

To begin, locate the Settings app on your Android device. You can usually find it in your app drawer or by swiping down from the top of the screen and tapping on the gear icon.

Once you’ve opened the Settings app, scroll down until you find the option labeled “Network & internet”. Tap on it to access additional settings related to your device’s connectivity.

Step 2: Enabling Hotspot

In the “Network & internet” settings menu, look for an option called “Hotspot & tethering”. This is where you’ll find all the settings related to creating a hotspot on your Android device. Tap on it to proceed.

If your Android version has separate options for Wi-Fi hotspot and USB tethering, make sure to select “Wi-Fi hotspot”.

(a) Name and Password

In this section, you’ll be able to customize the name and password for your hotspot network. The name is what will be visible to other devices when they search for available networks. To edit it, tap on “Network name” or “SSID”, and enter a name of your choice.

The password is what other devices will need to enter in order to connect to your hotspot network. To change it, tap on “Password” or “Security”, and enter a secure password. Make sure to use a strong combination of letters, numbers, and symbols to protect your network.

(b) Enabling Hotspot

Now that you have customized the name and password for your hotspot network, it’s time to enable the hotspot feature. Look for a toggle switch labeled “Portable Wi-Fi hotspot” or simply “Hotspot”. Tap on the switch to turn on the hotspot.

Once enabled, your Android device will start broadcasting a Wi-Fi signal that other devices can connect to.

Step 3: Connecting to the Hotspot

With the hotspot turned on, you can now connect other devices to it. On the device you want to connect, navigate to its Wi-Fi settings and search for available networks. You should see the name you assigned earlier as one of the options.

Select your hotspot network from the list and enter the password when prompted. Once entered correctly, the device will establish a connection with your Android hotspot.

Step 4: Managing Hotspot Settings

If you need to make any changes or manage your hotspot settings, simply go back to the “Hotspot & tethering” menu in your device’s settings. From there, you can turn off the hotspot when not in use or modify its name and password as needed.

  • Note: Keep in mind that using your Android device as a Wi-Fi hotspot may consume data from your mobile plan, depending on your carrier’s policies.
  • Note: The steps mentioned above may vary slightly depending on your Android version and device manufacturer.

Now that you know how to turn on the hotspot on your Android device, you can easily share your internet connection with other devices wherever you go. This feature is particularly useful when you don’t have access to a Wi-Fi network, but still need to get your other devices online.

Remember to use the hotspot feature responsibly and keep an eye on your mobile data usage to avoid exceeding your plan’s limits. Enjoy staying connected!
