Capturing the Entire Screen

If you want to capture the entire screen on your Mac, follow these simple steps:

  1. Press Command + Shift + 3: This keyboard shortcut will instantly capture the entire screen.
  2. The screenshot will be saved on your desktop: After pressing the shortcut, you will hear a camera shutter sound indicating that the screenshot has been captured. The image will be saved as a file on your desktop with a name like “Screen Shot [date] at [time].png”.

Capturing a Specific Area of the Screen

If you only want to capture a specific area of your screen, follow these steps instead:

  1. Press Command + Shift + 4: This keyboard shortcut allows you to select an area of your screen to capture.
  2. Your cursor will change to a crosshair: Move your cursor to the top-left corner of the area you want to capture.
  3. Click and drag: Click and hold your mouse button, then drag it across the area you want to capture. As you do this, you’ll see a highlighted rectangle forming around the selected area.
  4. Release the mouse button: Once you’ve selected the desired area, release your mouse button and your screenshot will be captured.
