Signing a PDF document on your Mac can be a quick and straightforward process. Whether you need to add your signature to an important contract or annotate a PDF with your approval, Mac offers built-in tools that make it effortless. In this tutorial, we will explore the step-by-step process of signing a PDF document on Mac using the Preview app.

Step 1: Open the PDF Document

First, locate the PDF document you want to sign on your Mac. You can either double-click the file to open it with the default application or right-click and choose “Open With” followed by “Preview.”

Step 2: Access the Markup Toolbar

Once you have the PDF open in Preview, click on the “Markup Toolbar” icon located at the top-right corner of the window. Alternatively, you can navigate to “View” in the menu bar and select “Show Markup Toolbar.”

Step 3: Add Your Signature

To sign a PDF document, click on the “Sign” icon in the toolbar, which looks like a fountain pen. A dropdown menu will appear with options to create a new signature or use an existing one.

  • Create a New Signature:
  • If you don’t have a saved signature yet, click on “Create Signature.” A small window will pop up with instructions to sign your name using either your trackpad or a connected iOS device.

  • Use an Existing Signature:
  • If you have already created signatures before, select “Choose Signature” from the dropdown menu. A list of available signatures will appear, and you can click on one to add it to your document.

Step 4: Place Your Signature

After selecting your desired signature, the cursor will change to a crosshair. Click and drag on the PDF document where you want to place your signature. You can resize and reposition it as needed.

Step 5: Save Your Signed Document

Once you have placed your signature, navigate to “File” in the menu bar and select “Save” or “Export.” Choose the desired file format and location on your Mac to save the signed document.

  • Multiple Signatures: If you need to add multiple signatures to a PDF document, repeat steps 3 and 4 for each signature.
  • Edit Signature: To edit or remove a saved signature, click on the “Sign” icon in the Markup Toolbar. From the dropdown menu, choose “Manage Signatures.” A new window will open where you can edit or delete existing signatures.

Congratulations! You now know how to sign a PDF document on Mac using Preview. With these simple steps, you can quickly add your signature to any PDF file without any external tools or software.

Remember that signing documents electronically is legally binding in most cases. However, it’s always advisable to consult with legal professionals regarding specific requirements for your situation.
