Setting up an emergency contact on your iPhone can be a life-saving feature. In case of an emergency, this allows anyone to quickly access important information and contact your designated person. Here’s how you can set up an emergency contact on your iPhone:

Step 1: Open the Health App

To begin, open the Health app on your iPhone. This app comes pre-installed on all iPhones and is represented by a white icon with a red heart inside.

Step 2: Tap on Medical ID

Once you have opened the Health app, tap on the “Medical ID” tab located at the bottom right corner of the screen. This will take you to the Medical ID page where you can provide important medical information.

Step 3: Edit Your Medical ID

Next, tap on “Edit” in the top right corner of the screen. You will be prompted to enter your passcode or use Touch ID/Face ID to proceed for security reasons.

Step 4: Scroll Down to Emergency Contacts

Scroll down until you find the section titled “Emergency Contacts.” Here, you will see an option to add a new contact labeled “add emergency contact.”

Step 5: Select Your Emergency Contact

Tapping on “add emergency contact” will take you to your contacts list. Choose the person you want to set as your emergency contact from your saved contacts. You can select multiple contacts if needed.

Step 6: Set Relationship

After selecting your emergency contact, you will be asked to choose their relationship with you. This helps emergency responders quickly identify the contact’s role in your life.

Step 7: Save and Verify

Once you have selected the emergency contact and their relationship, tap on “Done” in the top right corner of the screen to save your changes. You will then be taken back to the Medical ID page where you can review your information.

Accessing Emergency Contacts

In an emergency situation, accessing your emergency contacts is simple:

  • From the lock screen, swipe right on the “Emergency” option at the bottom left corner of the screen.
  • Tapping on “Emergency Contacts” will display a list of contacts you have designated as emergency contacts.
  • You can make a call directly from this screen by tapping on the contact’s name or by tapping on their phone number.

It’s important to note that this feature is available even when your iPhone is locked, making it easily accessible during emergencies.

By following these steps, you can ensure that your emergency contact is readily available to assist you in times of need. Remember to keep this information updated if there are any changes to your contact list or relationships. Stay safe!
