In this tutorial, we will learn how to screen record and capture audio on Mac. Screen recording can be a useful feature for creating tutorials, recording gameplay, or capturing important moments from your screen.

With the built-in tools on Mac, you can easily record your screen along with audio. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Launching QuickTime Player

The first step is to open QuickTime Player. You can find it in the Applications folder or use Spotlight search (press Command + Space and type “QuickTime Player”). Once you have located it, click on it to launch the application.

Step 2: Starting a New Screen Recording

After opening QuickTime Player, go to the menu bar at the top of your screen and click on “File”. From the drop-down menu, select “New Screen Recording”.

Note: You can also use the keyboard shortcut Control + Command + N to start a new screen recording.

Step 3: Configuring Screen Recording Settings

A small screen recording window will appear on your screen. Before you start recording, you have the option to configure some settings.

  1. Select Audio Source: To record audio along with your screen recording, click on the small arrow next to the record button (it looks like a red circle) in the middle of the screen recording window.

From the drop-down menu that appears, choose whether you want to record audio from your computer’s microphone or an external microphone.

  2. Show Mouse Clicks: If you want to highlight mouse clicks during your screen recording, click on “Options” in the screen recording window and check “Show Mouse Clicks in Recording”.
  3. Quality and File Size: By default, QuickTime Player records at the highest quality. If you want to reduce the file size, click on “Options” in the screen recording window and choose a lower quality option.

Step 4: Starting the Screen Recording

Once you have configured the settings according to your preferences, click on the red record button in the center of the screen recording window to start recording your screen.

Step 5: Recording Your Screen

After clicking the record button, your entire screen will be highlighted. You can start recording by clicking anywhere on your screen or by dragging to select a specific area to record. To stop recording, either click on the stop button in the menu bar (it looks like a square) or press Command + Control + Esc.

Step 6: Saving and Editing Your Recording

After you have finished recording, QuickTime Player will automatically open your recorded video. To save it, go to “File” in the menu bar and click on “Save”. Choose a destination folder for your file and give it a name.

  • Capture System Audio: If you want to include system audio (such as sound from videos or music) in your screen recording, you need to use additional software like Soundflower.
  • Edit Your Recording: QuickTime Player also provides basic editing tools that allow you to trim, split, or rearrange sections of your recorded video.

Congratulations! You now know how to screen record and capture audio on Mac using QuickTime Player.

Whether it’s for work or personal use, this feature will surely come in handy. Happy recording!
