Scanning text with your iPhone can be a useful feature when you need to quickly extract information from physical documents or images. With the advancements in mobile technology, it has become easier than ever to digitize text using just your smartphone. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of scanning text with an iPhone, step by step.

Step 1: Open the Notes App

First, locate and open the Notes app on your iPhone. The Notes app is a built-in application that comes pre-installed on all iOS devices.

Step 2: Create a New Note

Once you have opened the Notes app, tap on the “New Note” button to create a new note. This will give you a blank canvas to work with.

Step 3: Access the Scanning Functionality

To access the scanning functionality of your iPhone, tap on the “+” button located at the bottom of the screen within the note.

Pro tip: If you can’t find the “+” button, swipe up from the bottom of your screen to reveal additional options.

Step 4: Choose “Scan Documents”

Within the options menu that appears after tapping on the “+”, select “Scan Documents”. This will activate your iPhone’s camera for scanning purposes.

Step 5: Position Your Document

Note: Ensure that you have ample lighting conditions for optimal scanning results.

Position your document within view of your iPhone’s camera. Align it properly and make sure it is flat and well-lit. Your iPhone will automatically detect edges and highlight them in yellow to help you position your document correctly.

Pro tip:

  • If your document is too large to fit within the frame, you can manually adjust the corners by dragging them with your finger.
  • Tap the shutter button manually if your iPhone doesn’t capture automatically.
  • You can also toggle the flash on or off if needed.

Step 6: Capture and Edit

Once you have positioned your document correctly, tap on the shutter button to capture the image. Your iPhone will then display a preview of the scanned document.

Pro tip:

  • If you are not satisfied with the quality of the scan, you can retake it by tapping on the “Retake” button.
  • You can also adjust the corners or rotate the image using intuitive gestures before saving it.

Step 7: Save and Edit as Text

After capturing an accurate scan, tap on “Save” to save it to your note. The scanned document will now appear as an image within your note.

To convert this image into editable text, tap on it and select “Markup”. This will open a set of editing tools at the bottom of your screen.

Pro tip:

  • You can use these editing tools to highlight or underline specific portions of text within your scanned document for better readability.

Step 8: Extract Text from Image

To extract text from your scanned document, tap on the three-dot menu icon located at the top-right corner of your screen while in Markup mode. From here, select “Extract Text”.

Your iPhone will perform OCR (Optical Character Recognition) to analyze the scanned image and convert it into editable text. This process may take a few seconds.

Step 9: Edit and Share

Once your document has been converted into text, you can edit it within the note using the standard text editing options available in the Notes app.

Pro tip: You can also share your scanned and extracted text with others by tapping on the share button located at the top-right corner of your screen. From here, you can choose various sharing options such as email, messaging apps, or even AirDrop.

You have successfully learned how to scan text with your iPhone using the built-in Notes app. This feature can be incredibly handy for digitizing physical documents or extracting information from images quickly and efficiently.

Remember to experiment with different lighting conditions and angles to achieve the best scanning results. Happy scanning!
