iPhone, Tutorials

Scanning documents on your iPhone is a convenient way to digitize important paperwork and eliminate the need for physical copies. With the advancements in smartphone technology, you can now easily scan documents using just your iPhone camera. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of scanning a document using your iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Notes app on your iPhone. If you don’t have it already, you can download it for free from the App Store.

Step 2: Create a new note by tapping on the “+” button at the bottom center of the screen.

Step 3: Tap on the camera icon above the keyboard. A menu will appear with different options. Choose “Scan Documents.”

Step 4: Position your iPhone camera over the document you want to scan. Make sure to align it properly and keep a steady hand to get a clear image.

Note: The Notes app automatically detects edges and adjusts for perspective distortion, so you don’t have to worry about capturing a perfectly aligned shot.

Step 5: Aim for good lighting conditions to ensure optimal results. Natural daylight or well-lit rooms are recommended for clearer scans.

Step 6: If necessary, use the yellow handles that appear around the document edges to manually adjust and fine-tune the cropping.

  • TIP: You can tap on “Auto” at any time during this process to let the app automatically adjust and enhance your scan.

Step 7: If you need to scan multiple pages, tap on the “+” button beside “Scan Document” before capturing each page. Repeat steps 4-6 for each page until you have scanned all of them.

Note: The app will automatically organize multiple pages into a single PDF file.

Step 8: Once you have finished scanning all the pages, tap on “Save” to store the scanned document in your Notes app.

Editing Scanned Documents

Now that you have successfully scanned a document, you may want to make some edits or annotations. The Notes app provides several tools to help you with this:

  • Markup: Tap on the scanned document thumbnail within your note and select “Markup” to access a range of tools for drawing, highlighting, adding text, and more.
  • Crop: If you need to adjust the cropping of a scanned document, tap on the thumbnail and select “Crop” to manually modify the edges.
  • Delete Pages: To remove any unwanted pages from a scanned document, tap on the thumbnail, swipe left on the page you wish to delete, and tap “Delete.”

Saving and Sharing Scanned Documents

The Notes app allows you to save and share your scanned documents easily. Here’s how:

Saving:

  • To save a scanned document as an image file, tap on the share icon in the top-right corner of your note and select “Save Image.” The file will be saved in your Photos app.
  • To save a scanned document as a PDF file, tap on the share icon in the top-right corner of your note and select “Create PDF.” You can then choose where to save it.

Sharing:

  • To share a scanned document directly from the Notes app, tap on the share icon in the top-right corner of your note. You will have different options like AirDrop, Messages, Mail, and more.
  • If you saved the scanned document as a PDF file, you can also share it using other apps like Dropbox, Google Drive, or any other cloud storage service.

And there you have it! You now know how to scan documents using your iPhone and even make edits before saving and sharing them.

This convenient feature of the Notes app can help you stay organized and reduce paper clutter. Give it a try!
