iPhone, Tutorials

Scanning documents has become a breeze with the advent of smartphones. Gone are the days when you needed a bulky scanner or a dedicated scanning device to digitize your important paperwork.

Now, with just your trusty iPhone, you can easily scan documents on the go. In this tutorial, we will walk you through the step-by-step process of scanning a document with an iPhone.

Step 1: Prepare Your Document

Before you start scanning, ensure that your document is clean and free from any creases or folds. Place it on a flat surface with good lighting, preferably natural light, to ensure optimal scan quality.

Step 2: Open the Notes App

To begin the scanning process, open the Notes app on your iPhone. This app comes pre-installed and is available on all iOS devices.

Step 3: Create a New Note

In the Notes app, tap on the New Note button (represented by a pencil and paper icon) located at the bottom right corner of the screen. This will create a new blank note where we will scan our document.

Step 4: Access the Document Scanner

To access the built-in document scanner feature, tap on the + (plus) button above the keyboard inside your newly created note. This will open up a set of options.

  • Scan Documents: Tap on this option to activate the document scanner.
  • Take Photo or Video: This option allows you to directly capture photos or videos using your iPhone’s camera.
  • Photo Library: If you have already taken a photo of the document, you can import it from your photo library using this option.
  • Drawing: This option lets you draw or add sketches to your note.

In our case, select the Scan Documents option to proceed.

Step 5: Position and Capture the Document

Aim your iPhone’s camera at the document you want to scan. The document scanner will automatically detect the edges of the document and highlight them with a yellow frame. Adjust your position until all edges are properly detected.

When ready, tap on the capture button (represented by a white circle) located at the bottom center of the screen. You can also use the volume up button as a shutter release if that feels more comfortable.

Step 6: Review and Edit the Scan

After capturing the scan, you will be taken to a preview screen where you can review and edit the scanned document if needed. You can use various editing tools like crop, rotate, or adjust corners to fine-tune your scan. Additionally, you can add multiple pages to a single scan by tapping on the + (plus) button again and repeating steps 5 and 6.

Step 7: Save or Share Your Scan

Once you are satisfied with your scan, tap on the Save button located at the bottom right corner of the screen. You can also share your scan directly from this screen by tapping on the Share icon (represented by an upward arrow in a box).

Tips for Better Scans:

  • Good Lighting: Ensure there is ample lighting to avoid dark or blurry scans.
  • Steady Hands: Hold your iPhone steady to avoid shaky or distorted scans.
  • Contrast: Adjust the contrast settings if your scan appears too light or too dark.

Congratulations! You have successfully scanned a document with your iPhone.

The Notes app offers a convenient and easy-to-use scanning solution that eliminates the need for additional hardware. Whether you need to scan important documents, receipts, or even handwritten notes, your iPhone has got you covered!

Remember to keep your scanned documents organized by creating folders within the Notes app or exporting them to other apps like Files or cloud storage services. Happy scanning!
