If you are a Mac user and have been facing the issue of duplicate photos cluttering up your storage space, fret not! In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to effectively remove duplicate photos on your Mac. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Use Finder to Locate Duplicate Photos

To begin with, open a Finder window and navigate to the folder or drive where you store your photos. Once you are in the desired location, follow these steps:

  • Select all the photos in the folder by pressing Command + A on your keyboard.
  • Right-click on any selected photo and choose Show Duplicates.
  • A new Finder window will open, displaying all the duplicate photos it has found.

Step 2: Review and Select Duplicate Photos for Deletion

Now that you have a list of duplicate photos, it’s time to review them and select the ones you want to delete. Follow these steps:

  1. Scan through the list of duplicate photos and identify those that you no longer need.
  2. Select each unwanted duplicate photo by holding down the Command key.
  3. Delete selected duplicates by either right-clicking on one of them and choosing Moveto Trash, or by pressing Command + Delete.
  4. A confirmation dialog box will appear asking if you want to permanently delete the selected items. Click onDelete All to confirm.

Step 3: Empty Trash to Free Up Space

After deleting the duplicate photos, they are moved to the Trash folder. To reclaim the storage space, you need to empty the Trash. Here’s how:

  • Right-click on the Trash icon located in the Dock.
  • Select Empty Trash from the context menu.
  • A dialog box will appear asking if you are sure you want to permanently delete all items in the Trash. Click on Empty Trash.

Step 4: Repeat for Other Photo Folders or Drives

If you have multiple folders or drives where you store photos, repeat Steps 1-3 for each location to ensure all duplicate photos are removed.

Congratulations! You have successfully removed duplicate photos on your Mac using Finder.

By eliminating these duplicates, you have freed up valuable storage space and organized your photo collection. Remember to periodically check for new duplicates and repeat this process as needed.

We hope this tutorial has been helpful in resolving your duplicate photo issue. Happy organizing!
