Android, Tutorials

Have you ever accidentally deleted important text messages on your Android device? Don’t worry, there’s a way to recover them without using any third-party apps. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of recovering deleted text messages on Android without the need for additional software.

Step 1: Stop Using Your Phone Immediately

If you realize that you have mistakenly deleted some text messages, it is crucial to stop using your phone immediately. This is because any new data or activity on your device can overwrite the deleted messages, making them irrecoverable.

Step 2: Enable USB Debugging

In order to recover deleted texts without using an app, you will need to enable USB debugging on your Android device. To do this:

  • Go to Settings on your phone.
  • Scroll down and tap on About Phone.
  • Find Build Number and tap it 7 times until you see the message “You are now a developer!”
  • Go back to Settings and scroll down to Developer Options.
  • Enable Developer Options and enable USB Debugging.

Step 3: Connect Your Android Device to Your Computer

Connect your Android device to your computer using a USB cable. Make sure that you have the necessary drivers installed so that your computer can recognize your device.

Note:

If prompted on your phone’s screen with a message asking for permission to allow USB debugging, select “Allow”.

Step 4: Launch Command Prompt (Windows) or Terminal (Mac)

In order to recover deleted text messages without an app, we will be using ADB commands. To do this, you will need to launch Command Prompt on Windows or Terminal on Mac.

Step 5: Execute ADB Commands

Once you have Command Prompt or Terminal open, execute the following ADB commands:

adb devices

This command will display a list of connected devices. Make sure that your device is listed.

adb shell

This command will open a shell session on your Android device.

cd /data/data/com.Android.providers.telephony/databases/

This command will navigate to the location where the SMS database is stored.

sqlite3 mmssms.db

This command will open the SQLite database containing your text messages.

.mode insert

This command changes the output mode to insert, allowing us to export the deleted text messages as insert statements.output sms.txt

This command redirects the output to a file named sms.txt in the current directory.dump sms

This command dumps the contents of the SMS table into the sms.txt file.

Step 6: Recover Deleted Text Messages

Now that you have exported the deleted text messages, it’s time to recover them. Follow these steps:

  • Navigate to the directory where you saved the sms.
  • Edit the file using a text editor and search for the deleted text messages you want to recover.
  • Note down relevant information such as sender, recipient, date, and message content for each recovered text message.
  • Once you have noted down the necessary information, you can close the file.

Step 7: Restore Text Messages

To restore the recovered text messages back to your Android device, follow these steps:

  • Disconnect your Android device from your computer.
  • Open the Messaging app on your phone.
  • Create a new text message to the recipient of each recovered message.
  • In the message composition field, enter the relevant information you noted down earlier.
  • Send the message. The recovered text message will now be restored to your SMS history.

Note: This method may not work if your Android device has been rooted or if you have performed a factory reset. Additionally, it is always recommended to regularly back up your important data to prevent any loss in case of accidental deletion or device malfunction.

In conclusion, recovering deleted text messages on Android without using an app is possible by following these steps. Remember to stop using your phone immediately after realizing that messages have been deleted and enable USB debugging before connecting it to your computer.

By executing ADB commands and exporting the SMS database, you can recover deleted messages and restore them back to your device’s messaging app. However, keep in mind that this method may not work under certain circumstances and it is always advisable to regularly backup important data on your Android device.
