Recording on an iPhone is a useful feature that allows you to capture important moments, create content, or simply save audio files. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of recording on your iPhone using its built-in Voice Memos app.
Step 1: Launching the Voice Memos App
To begin recording on your iPhone, locate and tap on the Voice Memos app icon on your home screen. The app’s icon is a small microphone on a dark background.
Step 2: Starting a New Recording
Once you have launched the app, you will be presented with the main screen. To start a new recording, tap on the large red button with a white circle at the bottom center of the screen. This will initiate the recording process.
To ensure optimal audio quality, position your iPhone’s microphone closer to the source of sound while recording.
Step 3: Pausing and Resuming
If you need to pause your recording temporarily, simply tap on the red button once. The button will change to show two white parallel lines within a square shape. To resume recording, tap on this button again.
Step 4: Ending and Saving Your Recording
When you are finished with your recording, tap on the red button once more. A confirmation message will appear asking if you want to save or delete your recording.
- To save your recording: Tap “Save” and provide a name for your recorded file when prompted. The saved file will now appear in the list of recordings in Voice Memos.
- To delete your recording: Tap “Delete Recording”. Please note that deleted recordings cannot be recovered, so ensure you have saved any important recordings before deleting.
Step 5: Managing Your Recordings
To access your recorded files in the future, open the Voice Memos app and locate the recording you want to play or manage from the list of recordings. Tap on the desired recording to play it back.
If you have a large number of recordings, you can use the search bar at the top of the screen to quickly find a specific recording by name.

- Editing Recordings: To trim or edit a recording, tap on the ellipsis (..) next to the desired recording in the list and choose “Edit Recording. “
- Sharing Recordings: You can share your recordings with others by tapping on the ellipsis (.) next to a recording and selecting “Share.
- Folders: You can create folders within Voice Memos to better organize your recordings. Simply tap on “Edit” at the top-right corner of the main screen, then tap “New Folder” and provide a name for it.
