How to Record Mac Screen

Recording your Mac screen can be extremely useful for creating tutorials, sharing gameplay videos, or even documenting software bugs. Fortunately, macOS comes with a built-in screen recording feature that makes the process a breeze. In this tutorial, we’ll explore how to record your Mac screen step by step.

Step 1: Open the Screen Recording Tool

To begin, open the Spotlight Search by pressing Command + Spacebar and type “QuickTime Player”. Click on the QuickTime Player app to open it.

Step 2: Start a New Screen Recording

In QuickTime Player’s menu bar, click on “File” and select “New Screen Recording” from the dropdown menu.

  • If you want to record audio along with your screen, click on the small arrow next to the record button and select your desired microphone under “Microphone”.

Step 3: Adjust Recording Settings

A small recording window will appear on your screen. Before you start recording, you can adjust a few settings:

  • Select Area: Click on the red “Record” button and drag your cursor to select the area of your screen you want to record. You can choose to record the entire screen or just a specific section.
  • Show Mouse Clicks: If you want to highlight mouse clicks during recording, right-click on the recording window and check “Show Mouse Clicks in Recording”.

Step 4: Start Recording

Once you’ve customized your settings, click on the red “Record” button in the recording window to start capturing your screen.

Step 5: Stop and Save the Recording

When you’re done recording, click on the “Stop” button in the menu bar at the top of your screen or press Command + Control + Esc on your keyboard. QuickTime Player will automatically open the recorded video.

  • If you haven’t chosen a save location before recording, you’ll be prompted to do so now. Select a destination folder and click “Save”.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully recorded your Mac screen using QuickTime Player. Now you can edit, share, or upload your video as needed.

Remember to practice and experiment with different settings to achieve the desired results. Happy recording!
