Are you concerned about the content your child might come across on their Android phone? Parental controls are a great way to ensure a safe and secure online experience for your child.

In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps of setting up parental controls on an Android phone. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Open the Settings

To begin with, unlock your Android phone and navigate to the Settings app. You can usually find this app in your app drawer or by swiping down from the top of your screen and tapping on the gear icon.

Step 2: Find and tap on ‘Users & accounts’

Scroll down in the settings menu and look for an option called ‘Users & accounts’. Tap on it to proceed.

Step 3: Select ‘Restricted profile’

In the ‘Users & accounts’ menu, you will find various options related to user profiles. Look for an option named ‘Restricted profile’, which is specifically designed for parental controls. Tap on it to continue.

Step 4: Enable restricted access

In this step, you need to enable restricted access for the profile. Simply tap on the toggle switch next to ‘Restricted profile’ to turn it on.

Step 5: Set up restrictions

Now that you have enabled restricted access, it’s time to set up specific restrictions for your child’s profile. Tap on ‘Configure restriction settings’.

a) App restrictions

  • To limit access to certain apps, scroll through the list of installed apps and toggle off any app that you want to restrict.
  • You can also tap on ‘Add app’ to include additional apps that are not listed by default.

b) Content restrictions

  • To restrict content based on age ratings, tap on ‘Content restrictions’.
  • Choose the appropriate age rating for movies, TV shows, and apps from the available options.

c) Purchase restrictions

  • To prevent accidental purchases, tap on ‘Purchase restrictions’.
  • Select the desired level of restriction for purchasing apps and other digital content.

Step 6: Switch to restricted profile

Now that you have configured all the necessary settings, it’s time to switch to the restricted profile. Swipe down from the top of your screen and tap on your profile picture or name.

Step 7: Select ‘Restricted profile’

In the drop-down menu that appears, look for an option called ‘Restricted profile’. Tap on it to switch to the restricted profile.

Congratulations!

You have successfully set up parental controls on your Android phone. Your child’s access will now be limited based on the restrictions you have configured. If you ever need to make changes or disable parental controls, simply follow these steps again and adjust the settings as needed.

Remember, parental controls are an effective way to protect your child from inappropriate content and ensure a safe online experience. Regularly review and update these settings as your child grows older and their needs change.
