How to Mass Delete Contacts on iPhone

In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to mass delete contacts on your iPhone. If your contact list is cluttered with old or unwanted entries, deleting them one by one can be a time-consuming task. Thankfully, there is a way to quickly remove multiple contacts at once.

Step 1: Backup Your Contacts

Before proceeding with the mass deletion process, it’s always a good idea to backup your contacts. This ensures that you have a copy of your important contacts in case anything goes wrong.

Method 1: iCloud Backup

To backup your contacts using iCloud:

  1. Go to “Settings” on your iPhone.
  2. Tap on your name at the top of the screen.
  3. Select “iCloud”.
  4. Make sure the “Contacts” toggle switch is enabled.
  5. Wait for the backup process to complete.

Method 2: iTunes Backup

If you prefer to use iTunes for backing up your contacts:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. Open iTunes and select your device.
  3. In the Summary tab, click on “Back Up Now”.

Step 2: Accessing Contacts

To access and manage your contacts:

  • Method A:

    If you are using iOS 12 or later:



    – Launch the “Contacts” app from the home screen.
    – Tap on “Groups” at the top left corner of the screen.
    – Select “All Contacts” to display all your contacts.


  • Method B:

    If you are using iOS 11 or earlier:



    – Open the “Phone” app from the home screen.
    – Tap on the “Contacts” tab at the bottom of the screen.
    – Your contacts will be displayed in a list view.

Step 3: Selecting Multiple Contacts

To select multiple contacts for deletion:

  • Method A:

    If you are using iOS 14 or later:

    – Tap on the first contact you want to delete, and then swipe right to left across each subsequent contact you wish to remove. A blue checkmark will appear next to each selected contact.
  • Method B:
    If you are using iOS 13 or earlier:
    – Tap on “Edit” at the top right corner of the screen.
