Mac, Tutorials

Have you ever wished that every time you open your web browser on your Mac, Google would be the first thing you see? Well, you’re in luck!

In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to make Google your homepage on a Mac. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Open Safari

Firstly, open the Safari browser on your Mac. Safari is the default web browser for Apple devices and is represented by a compass icon.

Step 2: Open Safari Preferences

In the top menu bar of your Mac, click on “Safari” and then select “Preferences” from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can use the shortcut “Command + ,” (comma) to directly open Preferences.

Step 3: Choose General Settings

In the Preferences window that opens up, click on the “General” tab located at the top left corner of the window. This tab contains various settings related to how Safari behaves.

Step 4: Set Homepage

Now that you are in the General settings, look for the “Homepage” field. Here, enter “www.google.com” without quotes. This will set Google as your homepage.

Note:

  • Make sure to type in the full URL including “www” and “.com”.
  • If you want to set a different search engine as your homepage, replace “www.com” with your preferred search engine’s URL.
  • If you want to set multiple homepages (open tabs) when launching Safari, separate each URL with a comma.

Step 5: Save Changes

To save your changes and make Google your homepage, simply close the Preferences window by clicking the red “X” button at the top left corner of the window.

Step 6: Restart Safari

Finally, quit Safari completely by pressing “Command + Q” or by clicking on “Safari” in the menu bar and selecting “Quit Safari”. Then, relaunch Safari to see your changes take effect.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully set Google as your homepage on a Mac using Safari. Every time you open Safari now, you will be greeted with the familiar Google search page.

Remember that you can always change your homepage settings in Safari Preferences whenever you want. Enjoy browsing with Google at your fingertips!
