Do you find yourself frequently using Google as your go-to search engine on your Mac? If so, why not make it even more convenient by setting Google as your default search engine?

In this article, we will guide you through the steps to make Google your search engine on Mac. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Launch Safari

First, open Safari, which is the default web browser on Mac. You can find it in the Applications folder or use Spotlight Search to quickly locate and open it.

Step 2: Access Safari Preferences

In the top menu bar, click on “Safari” and select “Preferences” from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, use the keyboard shortcut Command + Comma (,).

Step 3: Open the Search tab

In the Preferences window that appears, navigate to the “Search” tab. Here you will find various options related to search engines.

Step 4: Select Google as Your Default Search Engine

Under the “Search Engine” section, click on the drop-down menu next to “Search engine:” to view a list of available search engines. Select “Google” from the list.

Note:

If you don’t see Google in the list of search engines, you may need to add it manually. To do that:

  • 1. Scroll down and click on “Manage Search Engines”.
  • 2. In the new window that opens, click on the “+” (plus) button at the bottom left corner.
  • 3. Enter a name for your new search engine (e.g., “Google”).
  • 4. In the “Keyword” field, type a shortcut keyword to easily access this search engine (e., “g” for Google).
  • 5. In the “URL” field, enter the Google search URL: “https://www.google.com/search?q=%@“.
  • 6. Click “Done” to save your changes.

Step 5: Close Preferences

Once you have selected Google as your default search engine or added it manually, close the Preferences window by clicking the red “X” button at the top left corner.

Step 6: Test Your New Default Search Engine

To test if Google has become your default search engine, simply click on Safari’s address bar or press Command + L to focus on it. Type in a search query and hit Enter. Safari should now use Google to perform your search!

Congratulations! You have successfully made Google your default search engine on Mac.

Now you can enjoy faster and easier access to all the information you need with just a few keystrokes or clicks. Happy searching!
