How to Make a Widget on iPhone

Widgets have become an essential part of the iPhone experience, allowing users to access important information or perform tasks right from their home screen. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of creating your own widget on iPhone. Let’s get started!

Step 1: Update to iOS 14

If you haven’t already, make sure to update your iPhone to iOS 14 or later. Widgets were introduced with this operating system version, so it’s crucial to have it installed on your device.

Step 2: Go to the Home Screen

To begin creating a widget, navigate to your home screen by pressing the home button or swiping up from the bottom of your screen if you have Face ID enabled.

Step 3: Enter Jiggle Mode

To enter jiggle mode and start customizing your home screen, long-press on any app icon until they all start shaking. This indicates that you are now in edit mode.

Step 4: Tap the “+” Button

In the top-left corner of your screen, you will see a “+” button. Tap on it to open the widget gallery.

Step 5: Choose a Widget Size

The widget gallery displays various sizes and styles of widgets that are available for different apps. Scroll through the options and choose the desired size for your widget.

  • Small: This size allows for quick glances at information and typically displays basic details or quick actions.
  • Medium: This size provides more space for additional content and can show more detailed information or additional functionality.
  • Large: This size offers the most space and can display even more information or advanced functionality.

Step 6: Tap “Add Widget”

After selecting the size, tap on the “Add Widget” button to add it to your home screen. You can also drag it around to place it in your desired location.

Step 7: Customize Your Widget

To customize your widget, tap on its preview on the home screen. This will open the widget configuration interface.

Add or Remove Content:

Depending on the app and widget size you chose, you can add or remove content from your widget. For example, if you selected a weather widget, you might be able to choose which cities’ weather information is displayed.

Edit Appearance:

You can also edit the appearance of your widget by using various options provided by the app. For instance, you may have choices for different color themes or font styles.

Reposition or Resize:

If you want to reposition or resize your widget after customizing it, simply enter jiggle mode again by long-pressing on any app icon and then drag and drop the widget to its new location or adjust its size using the resize handles.

Step 8: Save Your Changes

Once you are satisfied with your customizations, tap anywhere outside of the widget configuration interface to save your changes. Your customized widget is now ready for use!

Congratulations! You have successfully learned how to make a widget on iPhone.

With widgets, you can now access important information or perform tasks directly from your home screen without needing to open individual apps. Enjoy this new level of convenience and productivity!
