Do you know that you can make phone calls directly from your Mac? It’s a convenient feature that allows you to stay connected without having to reach for your phone. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to make a phone call from your Mac.

Step 1: Set Up Your iPhone and Mac

Before you can start making phone calls from your Mac, you need to ensure that both your iPhone and Mac are properly set up and connected.

  • Update Software: Make sure that your iPhone and Mac are running on the latest software versions. To check for updates, go to Settings > General > Software Update on your iPhone, and click on the Apple menu > System Preferences > Software Update on your Mac.
  • Enable Wi-Fi Calling: On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Phone > Wi-Fi Calling and toggle the switch to enable it.

This will allow your iPhone to make calls over Wi-Fi even when cellular coverage is weak.

  • Sign in with the Same Apple ID: Make sure that you are signed in with the same Apple ID on both devices. This will ensure that they are properly synced.

Step 2: Connect Your iPhone and Mac

Once you have set up both devices, it’s time to connect them so that you can make phone calls from your Mac.

  • iCloud Sync: On your iPhone, go to Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud and make sure that “Contacts” is enabled. This will sync your contacts with iCloud.
  • iMessage Forwarding: On your iPhone, navigate to Settings > Messages > Text Message Forwarding and enable the option for your Mac.

This will allow you to receive and send text messages from your Mac.

  • Handoff: On your Mac, go to System Preferences > General and ensure that “Allow Handoff between this Mac and your iCloud devices” is enabled. This will enable the connection between your iPhone and Mac.

Step 3: Make a Phone Call

Now that your devices are connected, you can start making phone calls directly from your Mac.

  • Open FaceTime: Launch the FaceTime app on your Mac. You can find it in the Applications folder or use Spotlight search (Cmd + Space) to locate it.
  • Dial a Number: In the FaceTime app on your Mac, click on the “Audio” tab and enter the phone number you want to call in the search bar.

Alternatively, you can click on a contact from your synced contacts list.

  • Start the Call: Once you have entered the number or selected a contact, click on the green call button to initiate the phone call. The call will be placed through your iPhone, but you can communicate using your Mac’s microphone and speakers.

Note:

If you are unable to make phone calls from your Mac, make sure that both devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network and that they are within Bluetooth range of each other. Additionally, check if “Calls on Other Devices” is enabled on your iPhone by going to Settings > Phone > Calls on Other Devices.

Congratulations! You have successfully learned how to make phone calls from your Mac.

This feature comes in handy when you’re working on your Mac and don’t want to switch between devices. Enjoy the convenience of staying connected without missing a beat!
