How to Make a New Folder in Gmail on Android

Organizing your emails is essential to stay productive and keep your inbox clutter-free. With Gmail on Android, you can easily create new folders to categorize your messages. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the simple steps to create a new folder in Gmail on your Android device.

Step 1: Open the Gmail App

To get started, locate and tap on the Gmail app icon on your Android device’s home screen or app drawer. The app icon resembles an envelope with a red “M” logo.

Step 2: Access the Sidebar Menu

In the Gmail app, tap on the three horizontal lines located at the top-left corner of the screen. This will open the sidebar menu.

Step 3: Navigate to Labels

In the sidebar menu, scroll down until you see “Labels”. Tap on it to access your labels and folders settings.

Step 4: Create a New Label

To create a new folder (label), tap on the “Create New” button. A dialog box will appear.

Note:

  • You can also rename or delete existing labels by tapping on them and selecting the desired option from the menu that appears.

Step 5: Enter Folder Name

In the dialog box, enter a name for your new folder in the provided text field. Choose a descriptive name that reflects its purpose or content.

Note:

  • The folder name cannot contain special characters or certain reserved words like “inbox”, “drafts”, or “spam”.

Step 6: Assign Color to the Folder (Optional)

Assigning a color to your folder makes it visually distinct and easier to identify. To assign a color, tap on the color palette icon next to the folder name field. Choose your preferred color from the available options.

Note:

  • The color you choose will appear as a label next to your email subject lines in the Gmail app.

Step 7: Save Your New Folder

Once you have entered the folder name and optionally assigned a color, tap on “Create” to save your new folder (label).

Congratulations!

You have successfully created a new folder in Gmail on your Android device. You can now start organizing your emails by moving them into this new folder.

Tip:

  • To move an email into your new folder, open the email, tap on the three vertical dots at the top-right corner of the screen, select “Move to”, and choose your desired folder from the list.

By creating folders in Gmail, you can keep track of important emails, prioritize tasks, and achieve better email management on your Android device. Enjoy an organized inbox!
