Step 1: Open the Messages App
To start, locate and open the Messages app on your iPhone.
Step 2: Find the Group Message
In the Messages app, find the group conversation that you want to leave. It may be listed under Recent Conversations or in your list of message threads.
Step 3: Open Group Details
Tap on the group conversation to open it. Then, tap on the i icon located at the top-right corner of your screen. This will take you to the Group Details page.
Step 4: Leave the Group Message
In the Group Details page, scroll down until you see the option that says “Leave this Conversation.”
- If it is grayed out or not visible, it means that you cannot leave this particular group message because it is an iMessage with non-iPhone users or it is an SMS/MMS group message.
- If it is available and clickable, tap on it to confirm that you want to leave this group conversation.
Note:
- If you leave a group message, you will no longer receive any further messages from that conversation. However, all previous messages sent in the group will still remain visible to you.
- If you are the only remaining participant in a group message and you choose to leave, the group message will be automatically deleted.
Step 5: Confirm Leaving the Group
A pop-up message will appear asking you to confirm that you want to leave the group message. Tap on “Leave this Conversation” again to confirm your decision.
That’s it! You have successfully left the group message on your iPhone. You can now enjoy a clutter-free Messages app without receiving any more messages from that particular group conversation.
Note: If someone adds you back into the group conversation after you have left, or if it is a recurring group chat, you may receive new messages from that conversation again.
