Welcome to this tutorial on how to install Homebrew on Mac M1! If you’re looking for a package manager that allows you to easily install and manage software on your Mac, Homebrew is the way to go. In this guide, we’ll walk you through the installation process step by step.

Step 1: Open Terminal

To get started, open the Terminal application on your Mac. You can find it by going to Applications > Utilities > Terminal. The Terminal is where we’ll be running all the necessary commands to install Homebrew.

Step 2: Install Rosetta 2 (optional)

If you have a new Mac with the M1 chip, it’s recommended to install Rosetta 2 before installing Homebrew. Rosetta 2 is a translation tool that allows you to run software built for Intel-based Macs on your M1 Mac. To install Rosetta 2, open the Terminal and enter the following command:

softwareupdate --install-rosetta

Note:

This step is optional if you’re using an Intel-based Mac or if you’ve already installed Rosetta 2.

Step 3: Install Homebrew

To install Homebrew, copy and paste the following command into your Terminal and press Enter:

/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"

Note:

  • If prompted for your password during the installation process, enter your user password (this is normal).
  • The installation may take a few minutes, so please be patient.

Step 4: Verify the Installation

Once the installation is complete, you can verify that Homebrew is correctly installed by running the following command:

brew --version

Note:

If Homebrew is successfully installed, you should see the version number displayed in the Terminal.

Congratulations!

You’ve successfully installed Homebrew on your Mac M1! With Homebrew, you can now easily install and manage a wide range of software packages on your Mac. Enjoy exploring all the possibilities that Homebrew has to offer!
