How to Hide Messages on iPhone

Do you want to keep your messages private on your iPhone? Whether it’s for personal reasons or to protect sensitive information, hiding messages can be a useful feature. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to hide messages on your iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Messages App

The first step is to open the Messages app on your iPhone. You can find the icon with a green speech bubble on your home screen.

Tap on it to launch the app.

Step 2: Select the Conversation

Next, choose the conversation that contains the message you want to hide. Tap on it to open the conversation thread.

Step 3: Swipe Left and Tap Hide Alerts

To hide alerts for this particular conversation, swipe left on any message within the thread. This action will reveal a Hide Alerts option.

Tap on it.

Note:

By enabling Hide Alerts, you will no longer receive notifications for new messages from this contact or group until you disable it.

Step 4: Confirm Hidden Status

Once you’ve hidden alerts for a conversation, you’ll notice that a moon icon appears next to it in the Messages list. This indicates that alerts are hidden for this particular thread.

Bonus Tip: Lock Hidden Conversations with Screen Time Passcode (iOS 12 and later)

If you want an extra layer of security for your hidden conversations, you can utilize Screen Time passcode. Here’s how you can do it:

  • Go to Settings on your iPhone.
  • Scroll down and tap on Screen Time.
  • Select Use Screen Time Passcode, if you haven’t set it up already.
  • Tap on App Limits.
  • Select the Add Limit option.
  • In the list of apps, locate and tap on the Messages.
  • Select the desired time limit (e.g., “1 minute”) and tap on Add.
  • You will be prompted to enter your Screen Time passcode. Fill in the details to confirm.

By setting an app limit for Messages, you’ll need to enter your Screen Time passcode every time you want to access hidden conversations within the Messages app.

That’s it! Now you know how to hide messages on your iPhone.

Remember that hiding messages only prevents alerts from appearing, but they can still be accessed by opening the Messages app. If you want complete privacy, consider using secure messaging apps or other encryption methods.
