How to Get Text Messages on Mac Without Phone

Have you ever wished you could receive and send text messages on your Mac, even when your phone is not nearby? Well, the good news is that it’s possible!

In this tutorial, we will show you how to get text messages on your Mac without needing your phone. Let’s get started!

Requirements

Before we begin, let’s go over the requirements for setting up text messaging on your Mac:

  • A Mac computer running macOS 10.14 Mojave or later
  • An iPhone with iOS 12.4 or later
  • Both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network

Step 1: Sign in with your Apple ID

To start receiving text messages on your Mac, you need to make sure that both your iPhone and Mac are signed in with the same Apple ID. This allows them to sync seamlessly.

On Your iPhone:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on your Apple ID at the top of the screen
  3. Select “iCloud”
  4. Make sure “Messages” is toggled on

On Your Mac:

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the top left corner of your screen
  2. Select “System Preferences”
  3. Choose “iCloud”
  4. Ensure that “Messages” is checked

Step 2: Enable Text Message Forwarding

In order for your Mac to receive text messages, you need to enable text message forwarding on your iPhone. Here’s how:

On Your iPhone:

  1. Open the Settings app
  2. Tap on “Messages”
  3. Select “Text Message Forwarding”
  4. Toggle on your Mac from the list of available devices
  5. You may be prompted to enter a verification code displayed on your Mac

Step 3: Accessing Text Messages on Your Mac

Using the Messages App:

  1. Launch the Messages app on your Mac (usually found in the Applications folder or Dock)
  2. You should see a list of conversations similar to what you have on your iPhone
