System storage on a Mac can quickly accumulate and take up valuable disk space. This can be frustrating, especially if you’re running out of storage for your important files and documents. In this article, we will explore some effective methods to help you get rid of system storage on your Mac.

1. Clean up Cache Files

If you notice your Mac’s system storage is taking up a significant amount of space, clearing cache files can help free up some valuable disk space. Cache files are temporary files created by apps to improve performance, but they can accumulate over time.

To clear cache files:

  • Step 1: Open Finder and click on “Go” in the menu bar.
  • Step 2: Select “Go to Folder” from the dropdown menu.
  • Step 3: Type “~/Library/Caches” in the dialog box and press Enter.
  • Step 4: Delete the contents of the “Caches” folder. You may need to enter your administrator password.

  • Step 3: Enable “Optimize Storage” to allow macOS to manage storage automatically.
