Step 1: Sign Out of iMessage

If you want to stop receiving iMessages on your Mac, the first step is to sign out of iMessage. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen.
  2. Select System Preferences from the dropdown menu.
  3. In the System Preferences window, click on the iCloud icon.
  4. On the left side of the iCloud settings, locate and click on iMessage.
  5. Deselect the checkbox next to your Apple ID to sign out of iMessage.

Step 2: Disable iMessage Notifications

To ensure that you won’t be bothered by any future iMessage notifications, it’s important to disable them. Here’s how:

  1. Open the Messages app on your Mac.
  2. In the menu bar at the top, click on Messages > Preferences.
  3. In the Preferences window, select the Notifications tab.
  4. Deselect all checkboxes under Message Received and Message Sent sections to disable notifications.

Step 3: Remove iMessage from Dock and Finder Sidebar (Optional)

If you want to remove any trace of iMessage from your Mac’s Dock and Finder sidebar, follow these additional steps:

  1. Click and hold on the iMessage icon in your Dock.
  2. Drag the icon out of the Dock and release it to remove it.
  3. Open a Finder window.
  4. In the Finder sidebar, locate the iCloud section.
  5. Click and hold on iMessage, then drag it out of the sidebar to remove it.

Step 4: Restart Your Mac

To complete the process and ensure that iMessage is fully removed from your Mac, it’s recommended to restart your computer. This will refresh all settings and remove any remaining traces of iMessage.

Congratulations! You have successfully gotten rid of iMessage on your Mac. By signing out of iMessage, disabling notifications, removing iMessage from the Dock and Finder sidebar (if desired), and restarting your Mac, you can enjoy a messaging-free experience on your computer.

If you ever change your mind and want to use iMessage again, simply sign back in using your Apple ID and enable notifications as needed. Happy messaging!
