In this tutorial, we will walk you through the steps to force shut off your iPhone. Sometimes, your iPhone may freeze or become unresponsive, and in such cases, a force shut off can help resolve the issue. Please note that force shutting off your iPhone should only be done as a last resort when all other troubleshooting methods have failed.
Step 1: Locate the Side Button
To force shut off your iPhone, you need to locate the side button. On most iPhone models, including the iPhone X and later, the side button is located on the right side of the device. For earlier models such as the iPhone 8 and earlier, the side button is located on the top right corner.
Step 2: Press and Hold the Side Button
Once you have located the side button, press and hold it along with either one of the volume buttons simultaneously. On older models without volume buttons (such as iPhone 6s and earlier), press and hold both the side button and home button together.
Note:
If you have an iPhone X or later model, make sure to press and hold either volume up or volume down along with the side button. It doesn’t matter which volume button you choose.
Step 3: Slide to Power Off
Continue holding down both buttons until you see a “Slide to Power Off” slider appear on your screen. At this point, release both buttons.
- If You Can Slide to Power Off:
- If your device responds to touch input, simply swipe right on “Slide to Power Off” to turn off your iPhone.
- If You Can’t Slide to Power Off:
- If your device is unresponsive and you can’t slide the power off slider, continue to the next step.
Step 4: Force Shut Off
If you couldn’t slide to power off in the previous step, don’t worry. We can still force shut off your iPhone. To do this, press and hold the side button again until the Apple logo appears on your screen.
Note:
It may take a few seconds for the Apple logo to appear. Once it does, you can release the side button.
Step 5: Wait for Your iPhone to Restart
After force shutting off your iPhone, wait for a few seconds until it completely turns off. Then, press and hold the side button again until you see the Apple logo. This indicates that your iPhone is restarting.
Note:
The restart process may take some time. Be patient and avoid pressing any buttons during this time.
Congratulations! You have successfully force shut off your iPhone.
This method should help resolve any freezing or unresponsiveness issues you were experiencing. Remember to only use this method as a last resort when other troubleshooting methods have failed.
