How to Find Terminal on Mac

Are you new to using a Mac and wondering how to find the Terminal? The Terminal is a powerful tool that allows you to interact with your Mac using text-based commands. Whether you want to install new software, troubleshoot issues, or simply explore the command line, the Terminal is your gateway to a whole new level of control.

Using Spotlight

If you’re not familiar with Spotlight, it’s a handy search feature on Mac that helps you find anything on your computer. To open the Terminal using Spotlight:

  • Press Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight.
  • Type “Terminal” in the search bar.
  • Click on the Terminal app from the search results.

Finding Terminal in Applications

If you prefer navigating through your Applications folder, here’s how to find and open the Terminal:

  • Click on the Finder icon in your dock (the smiling face).
  • In the menu bar at the top of your screen, click on “Go“.
  • Select “Applications” from the drop-down menu.
  • Scroll down or use the search bar in the top-right corner to find “Utilities“.
  • Open Utilities and look for “Terminal”.
  • Double-click on Terminal.app.

The Dock Method

If you frequently use the Terminal and want quick access, consider adding it to your dock. Here’s how:

  • Open the Terminal using one of the methods mentioned above.
  • In the dock, right-click on the Terminal icon.
  • In the contextual menu that appears, select “Options” and then “Keep in Dock“.

Using Finder with a Keyboard Shortcut

If you prefer using keyboard shortcuts, this method is for you:

  • Open the Terminal app.
  • In the menu bar at the top of your screen, click on “Finder“.
  • Select “Preferences..” from the drop-down menu.
  • In the Preferences window, go to the “Keyboard” tab.
  • Click on “Shortcuts”, then “Servi.
