How to Find Mac Address of a Device

The Media Access Control (MAC) address is a unique identifier assigned to network interfaces for communications on the physical network. It is useful when you need to identify a specific device on your network.

In this tutorial, we will learn how to find the MAC address of a device.

Windows

To find the MAC address on Windows, follow these steps:

  1. Step 1: Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog box.
  2. Step 2: Type “cmd” and press Enter to open the Command Prompt.
  3. Step 3: In the Command Prompt, type “ipconfig /all”.
  4. Step 4: Scroll through the list of information and look for the entry labeled “Physical Address” or “MAC Address.” The value next to it is your device’s MAC address.

MacOS

To find the MAC address on MacOS, follow these steps:

  1. Step 1: Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences. “
  2. Step 2: In System Preferences, click on “Network.

  3. Step 3: Select your active network connection from the left sidebar.
    • If you are connected via Wi-Fi, select “Wi-Fi. “
    • If you are connected via Ethernet, select “Ethernet. “
  4. Step 4: Click on the “Advanced” button in the bottom-right corner.
  5. Step 5: In the Advanced settings, go to the “Hardware” tab.
  6. Step 6: The value next to “MAC Address” is your device’s MAC address.

Linux

To find the MAC address on Linux, follow these steps:

  1. Step 1: Open a terminal window.
  2. Step 2: Type “ifconfig -a” and press Enter.
  3. Step 3: Look for the entry labeled “ether” or “HWaddr.
