Emptying the trash on your Android device is an essential task to free up space and keep your device running smoothly. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of emptying the trash on Android, step by step.

Step 1: Open the Gallery app

If you have pictures or videos that you want to delete permanently, you’ll need to access the Gallery app on your Android device. To do this, locate and tap on the Gallery icon on your home screen or app drawer.

Step 2: Access the Trash folder

Once you’re in the Gallery app, look for the three-dot menu icon usually located in the top-right corner of the screen. Tap on it to open a dropdown menu. From the options displayed, select “Trash” or “Recently Deleted” (the name may vary depending on your Android version).

Step 3: Review and select files for deletion

In the Trash folder, you will see all the files that have been recently deleted from your device. Take a moment to review them and ensure that you no longer need them. To select multiple files for deletion, tap and hold on one file until it is highlighted, then continue tapping other files to add them to your selection.

Note:

If you want to delete all files in one go without reviewing them individually, look for a “Select All” option usually found at the top of the screen or within the three-dot menu.

Step 4: Permanently delete selected files

Once you have selected all the files you want to remove permanently from your device, find and tap on either a trash can icon or a “Delete” button. This action will prompt a confirmation message asking if you are sure you want to delete the selected files. Confirm your decision by tapping “OK” or a similar option.

Step 5: Empty the trash completely

After deleting the selected files, you might think that the trash is now empty. However, Android devices have a separate trash folder that needs to be emptied to permanently delete the files and free up space on your device.

To empty the trash folder completely, go back to the main screen of your Gallery app and access the three-dot menu once again. Look for an option like “Empty Trash” or “Delete All” and tap on it. Confirm your action in any pop-up dialog box that appears.

Note:

The location of the “Empty Trash” option may differ depending on your Android device and software version. If you can’t find it in the Gallery app’s menu, explore other menus within the app or consult your device’s user manual for specific instructions.

Step 6: Success! Your trash is now empty

Congratulations!

You have successfully emptied the trash on your Android device. Any files previously deleted and residing in the trash folder are now permanently removed from your device, creating more space for new memories.

  • TIP: Regularly emptying your trash folder helps optimize storage space on your Android device and ensures that unwanted files are removed permanently.
  • TIP: Some Android devices may automatically delete files from the trash after a specified period to free up space. However, it’s always good practice to manually empty the trash whenever possible.

Remember, freeing up space on your Android device not only improves performance but also allows you to capture new photos, record videos, and install more apps without worrying about running out of storage.

So, go ahead and give your Android device a clean slate by emptying the trash today!
