How to Do an Electronic Signature on Mac

Are you tired of having to print out documents just to sign them? With a Mac, you can easily create an electronic signature that will save you time and paper. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of creating an electronic signature on your Mac, step by step.

Step 1: Open Preview

To begin, open the Preview application on your Mac. You can find it in the Applications folder or by using Spotlight search.

Step 2: Create a Signature

Once in Preview, click on the “Preview” tab in the top menu bar and select “Preferences” from the drop-down menu. In the Preferences window, go to the “Signatures” tab.

Note: If you have already created a signature before, it will appear in this window. You can skip to Step 3 if that’s the case.

To create a new signature, click on the “+” button below the list of signatures. A pop-up box will appear with two options: “Trackpad” and “Camera.” Select your preferred method for creating a signature.

Using Trackpad

If you choose to use your trackpad, place your finger or stylus on the trackpad and sign your name as smoothly as possible. When you’re satisfied with your signature, click on “Done” to save it.

Using Camera

If you prefer using your camera, hold up a piece of paper with your signature on it in front of your Mac’s camera. Make sure it fits within the guidelines shown on-screen. When your signature is aligned correctly, click on “Done” to save it.

Step 3: Insert Your Signature

Once you have created your signature, it’s time to insert it into your document. Open the document you want to sign in Preview.

Click on the “Markup” toolbar icon, which looks like a toolbox. Then, click on the “Signature” button in the toolbar and select your signature from the drop-down menu.

Note: If you have multiple signatures, choose the one you want to use for this particular document.

Step 4: Place Your Signature

Your signature will now appear as a movable object on your document. Click and drag it to the desired location. You can also resize it by clicking and dragging one of the corners.

Note: If you need to remove or edit your signature, simply click on it and select the appropriate option from the pop-up menu.

Step 5: Save Your Document

Once you have placed your signature where you want it, save your document. Go to “File” in the top menu bar and select “Save” or “Save As.”


You have successfully created an electronic signature on your Mac using Preview. No more printing, signing, and scanning documents – just a simple electronic signature that saves time and resources!

    • You can create multiple signatures in Preview if needed.
    • Your signatures will be saved for future use.
