Welcome to this tutorial on how to delete a user on Mac. In this article, we will walk you through the steps to remove a user account from your Mac system. Whether you want to tidy up your computer or no longer need a specific user account, this guide will help you accomplish the task.

Step 1: Open System Preferences

To begin, click on the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences” from the drop-down menu. Alternatively, you can use the shortcut by pressing “Command + Space” and typing “System Preferences” into Spotlight search.

Step 2: Select Users & Groups

Once in System Preferences, locate and click on the “Users & Groups” icon. It’s represented by two people standing side by side.

Step 3: Unlock Preferences

If the padlock icon at the bottom left of the Users & Groups window is locked, click on it and enter your admin username and password to unlock it.

Step 4: Select User Account

In the left sidebar of the Users & Groups window, you will see a list of user accounts on your Mac. Click on the account that you want to delete.

Note:

Before proceeding with deleting a user account, ensure that any important files or data associated with that account are backed up or transferred to another user account.

Step 5: Click on Minus (-) Button

In the bottom left corner of the Users & Groups window, there is a minus (-) button. Clicking on it will prompt a confirmation dialog asking if you want to delete all user data associated with that account. Please note that deleting a user account will also delete all the files and data associated with it.

Step 6: Confirm Deletion

If you are certain about deleting the user account, click on the “Delete User” button in the confirmation dialog. Otherwise, click “Cancel” to abort the deletion process.

Step 7: Restart or Log Out

After successfully deleting the user account, you might need to restart your Mac or log out of your current user account for the changes to take effect.

Note:

Deleting a user account on Mac is irreversible, so make sure you have selected the correct account before proceeding with deletion. Additionally, only an administrator can delete other user accounts on a Mac system.

Congratulations! You have now successfully deleted a user account on your Mac.

Remember to double-check your actions before confirming deletion to avoid any loss of important data. If you have any further questions, feel free to consult Apple Support or visit their official website for more detailed instructions.

  • Tip: If you want to keep the files associated with the deleted user account, consider creating a new folder and moving those files there before deleting the user account.
  • Tip: To create a new user account on Mac, follow similar steps but click on the plus (+) button instead of minus (-) in Users & Groups preferences.

We hope this tutorial was helpful and easy to follow. Thank you for reading!
