If you’re a Mac user, you may find yourself needing to delete apps from your computer for various reasons. Whether you want to free up disk space or simply remove an app that you no longer use, deleting apps on a Mac is a straightforward process. In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the steps to delete apps on your Mac.

Deleting Apps From the Applications Folder

One common method of deleting apps on a Mac is by removing them from the Applications folder. Follow these steps:

  1. Step 1: Open Finder by clicking on the Finder icon in the Dock or by selecting it from the menu bar.
  2. Step 2: In the Finder window, navigate to the Applications folder located in the sidebar.
  3. Step 3: Scroll through the Applications folder and locate the app you want to delete. You can also use the search bar in the top-right corner of the Finder window to search for specific apps.
  4. Step 4: Once you’ve found the app, right-click on its icon and select Moveto Trash.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop the app’s icon directly into the Trash icon in your Dock.

  5. Note:You may be prompted to enter your administrator password before being able to move certain apps to Trash. This is normal and is done for security reasons.

Deleting Apps From Launchpad

If you prefer a more visual approach, you can also delete apps using Launchpad. Here’s how:

  1. Step 1: Click on Launchpad in your Dock. Alternatively, you can use the Launchpad gesture by pinching your thumb and three fingers together on your trackpad.
  2. Step 2: Locate the app you want to delete.

You can scroll through the pages or use the search bar at the top to find it quickly.

  3. Step 3: Once you’ve found the app, click and hold its icon until it starts shaking.
  4. Step 4: A small “x” icon will appear on the top-left corner of the app’s icon. Click on it to delete the app.
  5. Note: Some system apps or apps that came pre-installed with your Mac may not have an “x” icon and cannot be deleted using this method.
  6. Emptying the Trash

After deleting apps from your Mac, they are moved to the Trash. However, this doesn’t completely remove them from your computer.

To free up disk space, you’ll need to empty the Trash. Here’s how:

    1. Step 1: Open Finder by clicking on its icon in the Dock or selecting it from the menu bar.
    2. Step 2: In Finder, click on Trash, located in the sidebar.
    3. Step 3: Once inside Trash, click on Empty, located in the upper-right corner of the window.
    4. Note: Be cautious when emptying Trash as it permanently deletes all items inside. Make sure you’ve reviewed and retrieved any important files before proceeding with emptying Trash.
    5. Conclusion

Deleting apps on a Mac is a simple process that can help you keep your computer organized and free up disk space. Whether you choose to delete apps from the Applications folder or through Launchpad, make sure to empty the Trash afterward to completely remove them from your system. By following these steps, you’ll be able to delete apps on your Mac with ease.
