Android, Tutorials

Gmail is one of the most widely used email services, and it’s common to receive a lot of promotional emails cluttering your inbox. If you’re using Gmail on your Android phone and want to clear out all those promotions, you’re in luck! In this tutorial, we’ll guide you through the process step by step.

Step 1: Open the Gmail App

To begin, locate the Gmail app on your Android phone’s home screen or app drawer and tap on it to open.

Step 2: Access the Promotions Tab

Once you’re in the Gmail app, look for the “Promotions” tab. It can typically be found at the top of your inbox or by swiping left from the main inbox screen. Tap on “Promotions” to access all your promotional emails.

Tip:

If you don’t see a “Promotions” tab, tap on the three-line menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner of the Gmail app. Scroll down and tap on “Settings.” Select your email account and ensure that “Promotions” is enabled under the “Inbox categories” section.

Step 3: Select Emails to Delete

Now that you’re viewing your Promotions tab, it’s time to start selecting emails to delete. To select multiple emails at once:

  • Select Individual Emails: Tap and hold on an email until a checkmark appears beside it. Continue tapping on other emails to select them as well.
  • Select All Emails: At the top-right corner of your screen, tap on the checkbox icon with three vertical dots. This will select all emails currently visible in your Promotions tab.

Step 4: Delete the Selected Emails

After selecting the emails you want to delete, tap on the trash can icon at the top-right corner of your screen. A confirmation dialog will appear asking if you want to move the selected emails to the trash. Tap on “OK” to proceed with deleting them.

Tip:

If you accidentally delete an email or change your mind, you can quickly undo the action by tapping on the “Undo” button that appears at the bottom-left corner of your screen immediately after deleting.

Step 5: Empty Trash (Optional)

By default, deleted emails are moved to your trash bin and remain there for 30 days before being permanently deleted. If you want to free up space and remove these emails from your device entirely, follow these steps:

  • Open Trash: Tap on the three-line menu icon (☰) in the top-left corner of the Gmail app. Scroll down and tap on “Trash” from the menu.
  • Delete All Emails in Trash: At the top-right corner of your screen, tap on the checkbox icon with three vertical dots. This will select all emails currently visible in your Trash folder.
  • Delete Selected Emails: Finally, tap on the trash can icon to delete all selected emails permanently.

Congratulations! You have successfully cleared out all promotions in Gmail on your Android phone. Enjoy a clutter-free inbox!
