How to Delete a Contact on iPhone

Managing your contacts on your iPhone is an essential task to keep your address book organized. Whether you want to remove duplicates, outdated information, or simply declutter your contacts list, deleting unwanted contacts is a straightforward process.

In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to delete a contact on your iPhone.

Step 1: Open the Contacts App

To begin with, locate and tap on the Contacts app icon on your iPhone’s home screen. The app icon resembles a Silhouette of a person against a white background.

Step 2: Select the Contact to Delete

Once you have opened the Contacts app, scroll or search for the contact you wish to delete. Tap on their name to open their contact details.

Note:

If you are unsure which contact to delete, you can use the search bar at the top of the screen and enter keywords related to that contact’s name or phone number.

Step 3: Edit Contact Details

After opening the contact details, tap on the Edit button located at the top-right corner of the screen. This will allow you to make changes to the contact’s information.

Step 4: Scroll Down and Delete Contact

Scroll down until you reach the bottom of the edit screen. Here, you will find an option that says Delete Contact. Tap on it.

Note:

Before proceeding with deleting a contact, ensure that this is indeed what you want as it cannot be undone without restoring from a backup.

Step 5: Confirm Deletion

A pop-up message will appear, asking you to confirm the deletion of the contact. To continue with deleting the contact, tap on the Delete Contact button.

Congratulations! You have successfully deleted a contact from your iPhone.

The contact will no longer appear in your address book or other apps that use your contacts, such as Messages or Phone.

Additional Tips:

  • If you accidentally delete a contact, you can restore it by going to the Contacts app and tapping on the Recently Deleted folder. From there, you can select and recover any recently deleted contacts within a 30-day period.
  • To prevent duplicate contacts from being created, consider enabling iCloud Contacts sync or using third-party apps that help manage and merge duplicate contacts.

Now that you know how to delete a contact on your iPhone, take some time to declutter your address book and keep it up-to-date with only relevant and current contacts.
