How to Customize Ringtone on iPhone

Are you tired of the default ringtone on your iPhone? Fortunately, you can easily customize it according to your preference. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process of personalizing your iPhone’s ringtone step by step.

Step 1: Choose a Song

The first thing you need to do is select a song that you want to use as your customized ringtone. Keep in mind that the song should be available in your iTunes library.

Step 2: Trim the Song

To create a shorter ringtone, it’s important to trim the selected song. Follow these steps:

  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Select the song you want to customize.
  3. Right-click on the song and choose “Get Info”.
  4. In the “Options” tab, set the start and stop time for your ringtone. Make sure it is no longer than 30 seconds.
  5. Click “OK” to save the changes.

Step 3: Convert to AAC Format

iTunes requires ringtones to be in AAC format. To convert your trimmed song into AAC format, follow these instructions:

  1. Select the trimmed song in iTunes.
  2. Go to “File” and choose “Convert”, then click on “Create AAC Version”.
  3. A new file will appear in iTunes, which is a shorter version of your selected song.

Step 4: Change File Extension

To change this file into a ringtone, you need to modify its file extension. Here’s how:

  1. Right-click on the shorter version of your song and choose “Show in Finder” (Mac) or “Show in File Explorer” (Windows).
  2. In the Finder or File Explorer, locate the song file and change its extension from “.m4a” to “.m4r”.

Step 5: Add Ringtone to iTunes

Now it’s time to add your customized ringtone back into iTunes:

  1. Open iTunes on your computer.
  2. Go to “File” and select “Add File to Library”.
  3. Select the modified .m4r file you just created.
  4. Your ringtone will now appear in the Tones section of your iTunes library.

Step 6: Sync Your iPhone

The final step is to sync your iPhone with iTunes so that the new ringtone can be transferred:

  1. Connect your iPhone to your computer using a USB cable.
  2. In iTunes, select your device icon.
  3. Select the “Tones” tab under your device settings.
  4. Check the box next to “Sync Tones”.
  5. Select either “All tones” or “Selected tones”, depending on which ringtones you want to sync.
  6. Click on the “Apply” button to start syncing. This will transfer the customized ringtone to your iPhone.

Congratulations! You have successfully customized the ringtone on your iPhone. Now, when someone calls you, your unique ringtone will play, giving your iPhone a personal touch.

Note: Remember to keep your original song intact in your iTunes library, as modifying it will affect other uses of the song.
