Creating Another User on Mac

Mac allows you to create multiple user accounts, which can be useful if you want to share your computer with others or if you need a separate account for work or personal use. In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to create another user on Mac, step by step.

Step 1: Open System Preferences

To begin, click on the Apple menu located in the top-left corner of your screen. From the dropdown menu, select “System Preferences.” This will open the System Preferences window.

Step 2: Select Users & Groups

In the System Preferences window, locate and click on the “Users & Groups” icon. This will open the Users & Groups preferences.

Step 3: Unlock the Settings

In the Users & Groups preferences window, you may see a lock icon at the bottom left corner. Click on it and enter your administrator password when prompted. This will unlock the settings and allow you to make changes.

Step 4: Add a New User

Once you have unlocked the settings, click on the “+” button located below the list of users on the left side of the window. This will bring up a new window where you can enter details for the new user.

Step 4.1: Choose an Account Type

In the new window that appears after clicking “+,” choose whether you want to create a “Standard” or “Administrator” account for the new user. A standard account has limited privileges and cannot make major system changes, while an administrator account has full control over the system.2: Fill in User Details

In this section, fill in details such as Full Name (the name that will be displayed for the new user), Account Name (the username for the new user), and Password (the login password for the account). You can also add a password hint to help remember the password if needed.3: Set Up Password Reset Options (Optional)

If you want to provide an option for password reset, click on “Set Password” and follow the instructions to set up password reset options. This can be helpful if the user forgets their password in the future.

Step 5: Complete the Setup

After filling in all the necessary details, click on the “Create User” button to create the new user account. The account will now appear in the list of users on the left side of the Users & Groups preferences window.

Step 6: Customize User Settings (Optional)

If you want to customize settings for the new user, such as enabling parental controls or managing app restrictions, select the user from the list on the left side of Users & Groups preferences window. Then navigate through different tabs like “General,” “Parental Controls,” and “Login Items” to make desired changes.

Step 7: Switching Users

To switch between users, you have two options. You can either log out of your current account by clicking on Apple menu > Log Out [username], or you can use fast user switching by clicking on your username located at the top right corner of your screen and selecting another user from the dropdown menu.

Congratulations! You have successfully created another user account on your Mac. This allows multiple people to have their own personalized settings and files while using a single computer.
