Creating a New User on Mac Without Admin Password

Do you need to create a new user account on your Mac but don’t have the admin password? Don’t worry, there’s a way to do it. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the process step by step.

Step 1: Restart your Mac in Recovery Mode

If you don’t have the admin password, you’ll need to restart your Mac in Recovery Mode. To do this, follow these steps:

  • Shutdown your Mac.
  • Press and hold the power button.
  • Release the power button when you see the Apple logo.
  • Select “Restart” from the menu bar.
  • Immediately press and hold Command + R.

Step 2: Access Terminal

In Recovery Mode, click on “Utilities” in the menu bar and select “Terminal.” This will open a terminal window where you can enter commands.

Step 3: Disable SIP (System Integrity Protection)

SIP is a security feature that prevents unauthorized changes to system files. To create a new user without an admin password, we need to disable SIP. Enter the following command:

bcsrutil disable

This command disables SIP and allows us to make changes to system files.

Step 4: Create a New User Account

We can now create a new user account without an admin password using the following command:

nidump . /users

This command will list all the existing user accounts on your Mac. Take note of the username you want to create.

Next, enter the following command to create a new user account:

niutil -create . /users/[username]

Replace [username] with the desired username for your new account.

Step 5: Set a Password for the New User Account

To set a password for the new user account, enter the following command:

niutil -createprop . /users/[username] passwd "[password]"

Replace [username] with the username you created in Step 4, and [password] with the desired password for the new account.

Step 6: Enable SIP (Optional)

If you want to re-enable SIP (recommended for security reasons), follow these steps:

  • Restart your Mac in Recovery Mode again.
  • Select “Utilities” from the menu bar and choose “Terminal.”
  • Type in the following command to enable SIP:

  • bcsrutil enable
  • Restart your Mac once more.

Note:

The above steps allow you to create a new user account without an admin password. However, keep in mind that this method bypasses security measures. Use it only if necessary and exercise caution when making changes to system files.

Now you know how to create a new user on Mac without an admin password. Follow the steps carefully, and you’ll have a new account up and running in no time!
