How to Clear Safari Cache on iPhone
Is your Safari browser on your iPhone running slow or experiencing glitches? It might be time to clear the cache.
The cache is a temporary storage space that stores website data, images, and other browsing information. While it helps speed up your browsing experience by loading previously visited websites faster, over time it can accumulate a lot of unnecessary data and cause performance issues. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to clear the Safari cache on your iPhone.
Step 1: Launch the Settings App
To begin, unlock your iPhone and locate the Settings app on your home screen. It is represented by a gray gear icon. Tap on it to open the settings menu.
Step 2: Scroll Down and Find Safari
In the settings menu, scroll down until you find the list of installed apps. Look for the Safari icon, which has a blue compass-like shape. Tap on it to access Safari-specific settings.
Step 3: Clear Cache and Website Data
In the Safari settings menu, scroll down until you see “Clear History and Website Data.” Tap on it to proceed.
Note: Clearing history will remove all of your browsing history as well as cookies stored by websites in addition to clearing the cache.
A) Clear Cache Only
- If you only want to clear the cache and keep your browsing history intact, tap “Advanced” at the bottom of this screen.
- In the Advanced settings menu, tap “Website Data. “
- You will see a list of websites with stored data.
Swipe left on any website name you want to remove from cache, then tap “Delete. “
- Alternatively, you can tap “Remove All Website Data” to clear the cache for all websites.
B) Clear Cache and History
- If you want to clear both the cache and browsing history, tap “Clear History and Data” directly in the Safari settings menu.
- A confirmation pop-up will appear. Tap “Clear History and Data” again to confirm.
Step 4: Restart Safari
Once you have cleared the Safari cache, it’s a good idea to close the app completely and relaunch it. This ensures that the changes take effect.
Double-click the home button or swipe up from the bottom (on iPhone X or newer models) to access the app switcher. Locate Safari’s preview card and swipe it up or off the screen to close it.
Note: Clearing your cache will log you out of any websites that require login credentials. Make sure you remember your usernames and passwords before proceeding.
Congratulations! You have successfully cleared the Safari cache on your iPhone. You should now experience improved performance and a smoother browsing experience.
