Clearing Browser Cache

If you notice that your web browser is running slow or displaying outdated content, clearing the browser cache can often resolve these issues. Here’s how to do it for popular web browsers:

Safari

  • Open Safari and click on ‘Safari’ in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  • Select ‘Preferences’ from the drop-down menu.
  • In the ‘Preferences’ window, go to the ‘Advanced’ tab.
  • Check the box next to ‘Show Develop menu in menu bar’.
  • Close the ‘Preferences’ window.
  • Click on ‘Develop’ in the menu bar and select ‘Empty Caches’.

Google Chrome

  • Open Chrome and click on the three dots in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Select ‘More Tools’ from the drop-down menu, then choose ‘Clear browsing data’.
  • In the pop-up window, make sure that ‘Cached images and files’ is checked.
  • Select a time range (e.g., past hour, past day) for which you want to clear cache.
  • Click on ‘Clear data’ to remove cached files from your browser.

Mozilla Firefox

  • Open Firefox and click on the three horizontal lines in the top-right corner of the window.
  • Select ‘Options’ from the drop-down menu.
  • In the ‘Privacy & Security’ tab, scroll down to ‘Cookies and Site Data’.
  • Click on ‘Clear Data’.
  • Make sure that ‘Cached Web Content’ is checked and click on ‘Clear’.

Clearing System Cache

In addition to clearing browser cache, you can also clear system cache on your Mac. Follow these steps:

Delete User Cache

  • Go to the Finder and click on ‘Go’ in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
  • Select ‘Go to Folder’ from the drop-down menu.
  • Type “~/Library/Caches” (without quotes) in the text box and press Enter.
  • A folder will open with various cache files. Select all files and delete them.

Delete System Cache

  • Open Finder and press Shift + Command + G together.
  • Type “/Library/Caches” (without quotes) in the text box and press Enter.
  • Delete all files inside this folder. You may need to enter your administrator password to complete this action.

Note: Deleting system cache files may require administrative privileges, so be cautious while performing this action.

By following these steps, you can easily clear both browser cache and system cache on your Mac. Regularly clearing cache can help improve performance and free up valuable storage space. Enjoy a faster and cleaner Mac!
