How to Clear Internal Storage on Android

Are you running out of storage space on your Android device? Is your phone constantly reminding you to clear internal storage? Don’t worry, in this article, we will walk you through the steps to clear internal storage on Android and free up some valuable space.

Step 1: Identify Storage-hogging Apps

If your internal storage is almost full, chances are there are some apps that are taking up a lot of space. To identify these storage-hogging apps:

  • Go to Settings on your Android device.
  • Select Storage & USB or similar options depending on your device.
  • Tap on the Internal Storage option.
  • You will see a list of apps and their respective sizes. Identify the apps that occupy a large amount of space.

Step 2: Clear App Cache and Data

Certain apps store temporary files and data in their cache, which can take up a significant amount of space over time. To clear app cache and data:

  • Go back to Settings.
  • Select Apps & Notifications or similar options depending on your device.
  • Select the app you want to clear cache and data for.
    • If it’s a pre-installed system app, you may need to tap on Storage & Cache ..
  • If it’s a downloaded app, tap on Storage.
  • Tap on Clear Cache. This will remove the temporary files stored by the app.
  • If you want to free up even more space, you can also tap on Clear Data.

    Step 3: Delete Unnecessary Files and Downloads

    Over time, your device may accumulate unnecessary files and downloads that take up valuable space. To delete these files:

    • Open the Files or My Files app on your Android device.
    • Navigate to the Downloads or Documents folder, where most of the unnecessary files are stored.
    • Select the files you want to delete.
    • Tap on the Delete or Trash icon to remove them from your device.

    Step 4: Move Files to an SD Card or Cloud Storage

    If your Android device supports expandable storage through an SD card, consider moving large files such as photos, videos, and documents to the SD card:

    • Insert an SD card into your device’s SD card slot.
    • Go to Settings > Storage & USB.
    • Select Internal Storage..
  • Select Files or similar options depending on your device..
  • If you see aMigrate data option, tap on it. This will allow you to move files from internal storage to the SD card.
  • If your device doesn’t have an SD card slot, you can consideruploading your files to a cloud storage service, such as Google Drive or Dropbox.
  • Step 5: Uninstall Unused Apps

    Uninstalling unused apps is an effective way to free up storage space on your Android device. To uninstall apps:

    • Go to Settings > Apps & Notifications.
    • Select the app you want to uninstall.
    • Tap on Uninstall.
    • If the app is a system app, the Uninstall button may be grayed out. In such cases, you can only disable the app to free up space.

    Step 6: Use Storage Optimization Tools

    To make the process of clearing internal storage easier, you can use various storage optimization tools available on the Google Play Store. These tools help you identify and remove unnecessary files and optimize your device’s storage.
