Do you ever find yourself wondering how much space is left on your Mac? Checking the available space on your computer is crucial to ensure that you have enough storage for all your files and applications. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to check the available space on your Mac.

Step 1: Open Finder

To begin, open Finder by clicking on the Finder icon in your dock or by pressing Command + Space and typing “Finder” in the Spotlight search bar.

Step 2: Select Your Hard Drive

In the Finder window, locate and click on “Devices” in the left sidebar. Under “Devices”, you will find your hard drive.

It is usually labeled as “Macintosh HD”. Click on it to select your hard drive.

If you have multiple hard drives connected to your Mac, make sure to select the one that you want to check the available space for.

Step 3: Check Available Space

Once you have selected your hard drive, press Command + I, or right-click and select “Get Info”. A new window will appear showing detailed information about your hard drive.

You can also access this window by selecting your hard drive and clicking on “File” in the menu bar, then choosing “Get Info”.

Step 4: View Available Space

In the “Get Info” window, you will see various details about your hard drive. Look for the section labeled “Available:”. This section will display the amount of free space you have on your Mac.

The available space is typically measured in gigabytes (GB) or terabytes (TB).

Step 5: Close the “Get Info” Window

After you have checked the available space, simply close the “Get Info” window by clicking on the red X button in the top-left corner.

Congratulations! You have successfully checked the available space on your Mac. By regularly monitoring your available space, you can ensure that your computer runs smoothly and efficiently.

  • Tips:
    • If you are running low on space, consider deleting unnecessary files or moving them to an external hard drive.
    • You can also use storage management tools like “Optimize Storage” or “Empty Trash Automatically” to free up space automatically.
    • Make it a habit to check your available space periodically to prevent any storage-related issues.
