How to Change Time Zone on Mac

Changing the time zone on your Mac is essential if you’re traveling or if you’ve recently moved to a different location. Fortunately, macOS provides a simple and straightforward way to adjust the time zone settings. In this tutorial, we’ll walk you through the steps to change the time zone on your Mac.

Step 1: Accessing Date & Time Preferences

To begin, click on the Apple menu located in the top-left corner of your screen. From the drop-down menu, select “System Preferences.”

Once the System Preferences window appears, click on “Date & Time. “

Step 2: Unlocking Date & Time Preferences

If necessary, click on the lock icon in the bottom-left corner of the Date & Time preferences window. You may be prompted to enter your administrator password to unlock these settings.

Step 3: Selecting Time Zone Options

With the Date & Time preferences unlocked, click on the “Time Zone” tab at the top of the window. Here, you’ll find various options related to time zones.

Option 1: Automatic Time Zone Detection

  • To enable automatic time zone detection, check the box next to “Set time zone automatically using current location.” macOS will then determine and update your time zone based on your computer’s current location.
  • If automatic detection is already enabled, you can uncheck this box if you prefer manually setting your time zone.

Option 2: Manual Selection

  • To manually select a time zone, uncheck “Set time zone automatically using current location” if it is enabled.
  • Click on the map or use the search field to find your desired time zone. You can also use the scroll bar on the right to navigate through the list of available time zones.

Step 4: Applying Changes

Once you’ve selected your preferred time zone, close the Date & Time preferences window. Your Mac will automatically update the time and date based on the new time zone settings you’ve chosen.

Note: If your Mac is connected to the internet, it should automatically update the time and date. However, if you are not connected to the internet, you may need to manually adjust the date and time.

Congratulations! You’ve successfully changed your time zone on your Mac. Whether you’re traveling or have relocated, keeping your Mac’s time zone accurate ensures that all of your scheduled events and notifications are in sync with your local time.

In this tutorial, we learned how to change the time zone on a Mac. By accessing the Date & Time preferences, you can either enable automatic detection or manually select a specific time zone. Remember to apply any changes made to ensure that your Mac reflects the correct local time.
