Changing Startup Apps on Mac

Have you ever wanted to customize your Mac’s startup apps? By default, some applications automatically launch when you start your Mac, which can slow down the boot process and clutter your desktop.

In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps to change startup apps on your Mac.

Step 1: Open System Preferences

To begin, click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and select “System Preferences” from the dropdown menu.

Step 2: Access User & Groups Preferences

In the System Preferences window, locate and click on the “Users & Groups” icon. This will open a new window with user account options.

Step 3: Choose Your User Account

In the left sidebar of the User & Groups window, select your user account. This will display various options related to your account settings.

Step 4: Navigate to Login Items

Within your user account settings, click on the “Login Items” tab at the top of the window. This tab contains a list of applications that launch automatically when you log in to your Mac.

Step 5: Add or Remove Startup Apps

To add an application to your startup apps list, simply click on the “+” button below the list. A Finder window will appear where you can choose an application from your Applications folder.

Select the desired app and click “Add”.
Note: To remove an application from startup apps, select it from the list and click on the “-” button below.

Tips:

  • To reorder startup apps: Click and hold on an app in the list, then drag it up or down to change its position.
  • To temporarily disable a startup app: Check the box next to the app’s name. This will prevent it from launching automatically until you uncheck the box.

Step 6: Restart Your Mac

Once you have made the desired changes to your startup apps list, close the System Preferences window and restart your Mac for the changes to take effect. You will notice that only the selected applications will launch automatically upon login.

By following these simple steps, you can easily customize your Mac’s startup apps, improving boot times and organizing your desktop clutter. Take control of your Mac’s startup process and optimize it according to your preferences.
