Changing the lock screen on your Mac is a simple yet effective way to personalize your device and add a touch of your own style. Whether you want to showcase your favorite photo or set a motivational quote as your lock screen background, this tutorial will guide you through the steps to change your Mac lock screen effortlessly.

Step 1: Open System Preferences

To begin, click on the Apple menu icon located in the top-left corner of your screen, and select “System Preferences” from the dropdown menu. Alternatively, you can use the keyboard shortcut Command + Spacebar to open Spotlight Search and type “System Preferences” to quickly access it.

Step 2: Choose Desktop & Screen Saver

Once you have opened System Preferences, locate and click on the “Desktop & Screen Saver” option. This will open a new window where you can customize various aspects of your desktop and lock screen settings.

Step 3: Select Lock Screen

In the Desktop & Screen Saver window, you will see two tabs at the top: “Desktop” and “Screen Saver.” Click on the “Screen Saver” tab to access the lock screen settings.

Step 4: Customize Lock Screen

The lock screen options will now be visible on your screen. Here, you can choose from various pre-installed images by clicking on one of the options listed in the left sidebar under “Choose a folder.” Alternatively, if you want to use a personal photo or image as your lock screen background, click on “+”, located below the list of folders, to add a new folder containing your desired image.

You can also change how frequently your lock screen changes by adjusting the slider labeled “Start After.” This allows you to enjoy a new lock screen image every few minutes or keep it fixed on your chosen image.

Step 5: Preview and Apply

Once you have selected your desired lock screen image and made any additional customization changes, take a moment to preview how it will look. To do this, click on the “Screen Saver Options” button located at the bottom right corner of the window.

A new window will appear, showing you a preview of your lock screen. You can use this opportunity to fine-tune any settings or make further adjustments before applying the changes.

Finally, when you are satisfied with your lock screen customization, click on the “OK” button in the Screen Saver Options window and then close the Desktop & Screen Saver window. Your new lock screen will now be active!

Tips:

  • If you want to revert back to the default lock screen settings, simply select one of the pre-installed options or remove any custom folders.
  • Experiment with different images and quotes to find a lock screen background that reflects your personality and style.
  • Remember to periodically change your lock screen image for a refreshing experience each time you unlock your Mac.

Changing your Mac’s lock screen is an excellent way to add a personal touch and enhance your overall user experience. By following these simple steps, you can easily customize your lock screen background to reflect your unique taste and style!
