Changing your emergency contact on your iPhone can be an important step to ensure that you have the right person to contact in case of an emergency. Whether you need to update your contact information or add a new emergency contact altogether, the process is simple and can be done directly from your iPhone settings.

Step 1: Open the Settings app

To begin, locate and tap on the Settings app on your iPhone’s home screen. The Settings app is represented by a gray gear icon.

Step 2: Scroll down and tap on ‘Emergency SOS’

Once you have opened the Settings app, scroll down until you find the ‘Emergency SOS’ option. It should be located towards the bottom of the list.

Step 3: Tap on ‘Edit Emergency Contacts’

Tapping on ‘Emergency SOS’ will take you to a new screen where you will find various options related to emergency contacts. Look for the ‘Edit Emergency Contacts’ option and tap on it.

Step 4: Authenticate with Face ID, Touch ID, or Passcode

In order to make changes to your emergency contacts, you will need to authenticate using either Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode. This security measure ensures that only authorized users can modify this critical information.

Step 5: Add or remove emergency contacts

To add a new emergency contact:

  1. Tap on the ‘+’ button.
  2. Select a contact from your phonebook by tapping on their name.
  3. Choose their relationship to you from the available options (e.g., parent, spouse, friend).
  4. Tap on the ‘Done’ button to save the new contact.

To remove an existing emergency contact:

  1. Find the contact you want to remove from the list.
  2. Swipe left on their name to reveal the ‘Delete’ option.
  3. Tap on ‘Delete’ to remove the contact.

Step 6: Verify and test your emergency contacts

Once you have added or removed your emergency contacts, it’s a good idea to verify that they are correctly set up and functioning as intended. You can do this by performing a quick test:

  1. Lock your iPhone by pressing the side button (or top button, depending on your device model).
  2. Press and hold either the side button (or top button) along with one of the volume buttons until an Emergency SOS slider appears.
  3. Slide the Emergency SOS slider to make an emergency call.
  4. Your selected emergency contacts will receive a notification containing information about your current location (if available) and other relevant details.

Note:

If you want to change or update your medical ID information, which can also be accessed from the Emergency SOS screen, follow these steps:

Step 1: Open Health app

Navigate to your iPhone’s home screen and tap on the Health app icon. The Health app is represented by a white icon with a pink heart in the middle.

Step 2: Tap on the ‘Medical ID’ tab

Once you have opened the Health app, locate and tap on the ‘Medical ID’ tab located at the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 3: Tap on ‘Edit’

On the top right corner of the Medical ID screen, tap on the ‘Edit’ button.

Step 4: Make changes to your medical ID

In this section, you can modify your personal information, medical conditions, allergies, medications, and emergency contacts. Tap on any relevant field to make changes or additions.

Note:

You can also enable ‘Show When Locked’ to allow access to your Medical ID information from the lock screen without unlocking your iPhone. This can be useful for first responders or anyone trying to assist you in an emergency situation.

Congratulations! You now know how to change your emergency contact and update your Medical ID information on your iPhone. By keeping these details up-to-date, you can help ensure that you receive timely assistance when it matters most.

Please remember that emergency contacts should be informed and give their consent before adding their information to your device.
