Mac, Tutorials

If you’re tired of staring at the same default background on your Mac and want to add a personal touch, you’re in luck! Changing the background on your Mac to your own picture is a simple and quick process. In this tutorial, we’ll show you how to do it step by step.

Step 1: Choose Your Picture

Before we dive into the technical steps, let’s first find the perfect picture for your new background. You can use any image file format such as JPEG, PNG, or GIF. Whether it’s a stunning landscape, a cherished family photo, or an inspiring quote, make sure it’s something that brings you joy and suits your style.

Step 2: Open System Preferences

To change your background on Mac, start by opening “System Preferences.” You can do this by clicking on the Apple menu in the top-left corner of your screen and selecting “System Preferences” from the dropdown menu.

Step 3: Navigate to Desktop & Screen Saver

In the System Preferences window, look for the “Desktop & Screen Saver” icon and click on it. This will open the Desktop & Screen Saver settings panel.

Step 4: Select Desktop

In the Desktop & Screen Saver settings panel, make sure you’re in the “Desktop” tab. Here, you’ll see a list of pre-installed wallpapers on the left side of the panel.

Boldly Customize Your Background:

If you want to go beyond pre-installed options and use your own picture as a background, click on the “+” button located below the list of wallpapers. This will open a file browser window.

Step 5: Locate and Select Your Picture

In the file browser window, navigate to the location where you have saved your desired picture. Once you’ve found it, click on it to select it, and then click on the “Choose” button.

Step 6: Adjust the Picture Position

After choosing your picture, you’ll see a preview of how it will look as your background. By default, macOS will fit the image to your screen. However, if you want to adjust how the image is displayed, click on the “Fit” dropdown menu just below the preview.

  • If you choose “Fill Screen,” macOS will stretch or shrink your image to fit your screen regardless of its original aspect ratio.
  • If you choose “Fit to Screen,” macOS will scale your image without distorting its proportions.
  • If you choose “Center,” macOS will display the image in its original size at the center of your screen.
  • If you choose “Tile,” macOS will repeat the image across your screen like tiles.

Select the option that best suits your preferences.

Step 7: Enjoy Your New Background!

Once you’ve selected a picture and adjusted its position, close the Desktop & Screen Saver settings panel. Voila!

Your Mac’s background is now personalized with your own picture. Take a moment to admire and enjoy your new customized desktop view!

Changing the background on Mac is an excellent way to add a personal touch and reflect your style. Feel free to experiment with different pictures and settings until you find what suits you best. Happy customizing!
