Whether you want to create a fun montage, add a background track, or sync music with your video clips, the process is simple and can be done directly on your iPhone. In this tutorial, we will guide you through the steps of adding music to a video on iPhone using the built-in iMovie app.

Step 1: Install iMovie

If you don’t have iMovie installed on your iPhone, head to the App Store and search for “iMovie”. Tap on the Install button and wait for the app to download and install on your device.

Step 2: Launch iMovie

Once iMovie is installed, locate its icon on your home screen and tap on it to launch the app.

Step 3: Create a New Project

Create a new project by tapping on the + Create Project button. Select the Movie option from the menu that appears.

Step 4: Import Your Video

Tap on “Media”, which is represented by a square with an arrow pointing upwards. This will open your photo library.

Browse through your videos and select the one to which you want to add music. Tap on it once to preview it, then tap on “Create Movie”.

Step 5: Add Music

To add music, tap on “Audio”. You will see three options – “Soundtracks”, “My Music”, and “Theme Music”. Let’s explore each option:

Soundtracks provide a collection of pre-built music tracks that you can use in your video. Scroll through the available options, tap on a soundtrack to preview it, and select the one that suits your video. You can adjust the volume of the soundtrack by dragging the volume slider.

My Music

My Music allows you to choose a song from your iTunes library. Tap on “My Music”, and you will see a list of songs on your device.

You can browse through your songs or use the search bar at the top to find a specific song. Once you’ve found the song you want to use, tap on it to select it. Just like with soundtracks, you can adjust its volume.

Theme Music

Theme Music offers a variety of music tracks categorized by themes such as “Cinematic,” “Pop,” or “Playful.” Tap on “Theme Music”, browse through the available options, and select the one that matches the mood of your video.

Step 6: Preview and Adjust

After adding music, it’s time to preview your video with its new soundtrack. Tap on “Play” to watch your video from beginning to end. If you’re not satisfied with the placement or volume of the music, don’t worry – iMovie allows you to make adjustments easily.

To trim or split the audio clip, tap on “Audio”, then tap on “Edit”. You can drag the handles at either end of the audio clip to adjust its length or split it into multiple parts.

Step 7: Save and Export

Once you’re happy with the music and video combination, it’s time to save your work. Tap on the “Done” button in the top-left corner of the screen.

To export your video, tap on the “Share” button represented by an arrow pointing upwards. You will see several options to share your video, such as “Save Video”, “AirDrop”, or uploading it directly to social media platforms like YouTube or Instagram.

  • Save Video: This option allows you to save the video directly to your camera roll.
  • AirDrop: Use AirDrop to send the video wirelessly to another compatible device nearby.
  • Social Media Platforms: If you want to share your video on social media, simply tap on the platform of your choice and follow the prompts to upload it.

Congratulations! You have successfully added music to your video on iPhone using iMovie. Now you can create engaging and captivating videos that are sure to impress your friends and family.

Remember to experiment with different soundtracks, adjust volumes, and have fun exploring all the features iMovie has to offer. Happy editing!
